You will work on systems that directly influence automated energy trading, forecasting accuracy, asset optimization, real-time decision-making, and large-scale data processing. The opportunity Balanz Energy is looking for a Senior Golang Backend Developer to work on complex backend systems with direct real-world impact. This is not a maintenance role within a large corporate environment. The environment combines real-time systems, automated trading infrastructure, weather forecasting, event-driven architecture, machine learning workloads, distributed systems, and backend platform engineering. The technical challenges are directly connected to the physical energy market itself. Improvements in forecasting quality, trading speed, or asset optimization directly impact customer profitability and grid efficiency. Balanz Energy Balanz Energy is building next-generation infrastructure for renewable energy optimization and automated energy trading. The Netherlands is facing one of the largest energy transition challenges in Europe. The rapid growth of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind has fundamentally changed grid stability. Production is increasingly weather-dependent, while consumption follows different daily and seasonal patterns. The platform enables renewable energy providers, such as large solar operators, to optimize their assets in real time by combining forecasting, market intelligence, automated trading strategies, and asset-level optimization. Rather than approaching the market from a portfolio perspective, Balanz Energy operates from the asset level upwards. By understanding the behavior of individual assets, the platform enables faster and more accurate decisions around trading, curtailment, forecasting, and optimization. This improves customer profitability while contributing to a more balanced and efficient energy grid. The company recently went live in the Dutch market and is already working with a rapidly growing customer pipeline. Engineering philosophy The company intentionally keeps engineering teams small, highly capable, and product-focused. By the end of the year, the development team will consist of approximately five engineers. AI-assisted development is fully embedded in the workflow. The team actively uses coding agents and AI tooling to accelerate development, automate repetitive work, and increase delivery speed. Engineers are expected to understand architectural trade-offs, validate implementations, make technical decisions, maintain software quality, and apply judgement where it matters most. Technical landscape Golang as the primary backend language, with Python used for machine learning workloads and scripting, and Svelte for frontend development Infrastructure built on Kubernetes, Redis, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, and NATS Jetstream, covering orchestration, caching, persistence, analytics, and messaging Continuously evolving tech stack aligned with product growth and scaling requirements What you will do Contribute directly to the core platform, influencing technical direction and architectural decisions Build scalable backend services in Golang and improve real-time trading infrastructure Process large volumes of weather and energy market data in latency-sensitive environments Design systems operating under real-world timing and risk constraints Collaborate with product and business stakeholders on integrations, scalability, and observability What Balanz Energy is looking for The company is looking for engineers who combine strong backend fundamentals with a product mindset and ownership. 10+ years of experience with Golang, including concurrency and asynchronous processing Ability to design and scale distributed backend systems Comfortable making architectural trade-offs and communicating technical decisions clearly Ownership mindset with a focus on building products end-to-end Nice to have: Experience in trading systems, fintech, energy platforms, IoT, machine learning infrastructure, or other data-intensive environments Experience working with multiple programming languages Team and culture Balanz Energy values collaboration and knowledge sharing, with a strong preference for in-person teamwork due to the complexity of the domain.
