The Role

NHS GREATER GLASGOW AND CLYDE WESTMARC YOKER DEPOT.

Mobile Wheelchair Technician/Senior Rehabilitation Technician Band 4

You will require to work as part of a team responsible for the delivery and repair of wheelchairs within the West of Scotland. You must possess a HNC in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent or an ONC with three years relevant experience. You will have a minimum of three years post qualification experience within an engineering environment and should have a good knowledge of engineering practices and materials. Knowledge of wheelchair repairs would be advantageous.

You will be required to hold a full driving licence. Good time management, problem solving and communication skills are essential.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Location based in WestMarc Yoker Depot
  • Full-time position (36 hours per week)
  • Permanent Contract
  • Shift pattern for this post are Monday to Friday, 0800/30 to 1600/30

Key Responsibilities

  • To assist in the prioritising and scheduling of his or her own work and that of the Wheelchair Delivery Assistants in their team.
  • To perform maintenance and repair activities of all manual and powered wheelchairs and some routine seating equipment in an unsupervised environment as per manufacturer instructions and national or departmental guidelines.
  • To deliver, fit and demonstrate to wheelchair users and their carers the safe operation of the standard equipment supplied.
  • To participate in communication structures with the rest of the interdisciplinary team as set up by the Head of Service and to provide technical advice about the standard range of equipment to the team.
  • May infrequently provide cover for sickness and holidays to other mobile technical teams within Westmarc to meet the exigencies of the service.
  • To identify, investigate and assist in the reporting of “adverse incidents” relating to wheelchair use following national reporting guidelines for adverse incidents involving Medical Devices.
  • To deliver, fit, demonstrate and repair seating equipment under clinical and technical guidelines and procedures developed by the bioengineering team.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential

  • Technical qualification. HNC in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent. Knowledge of wheelchair repairs and product knowledge.
  • Driving license
  • Specialist knowledge of wheelchair configurations for patient functioning, e.g. wheelchair propulsion and controls.
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge and expertise acquired through short theoretical courses, manufactures training and relevant practical experience in a broad range of equipment and techniques.
  • The post holder should have effective communication skills and an ability to work on their own initiative.
  • Working knowledge of confidentiality requirements.
  • Driving licence and in depth knowledge of the highway code
