We are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to provide technical leadership and support operations and sustaining engineering project delivery across Iron Ore Company of Canada operations. This role offers the opportunity to influence engineering systems, standards and asset performance while working with a global network of technical specialists. You will work across a fully integrated mine, ore delivery system, concentrator, pellet plant, rail network, and supporting infrastructure while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering and operational teams. The role is based in Labrador City, NL. This is a residential role; fly-in/fly-out is not available. Relocation assistance is provided if applicable. Reporting to the Superintendent of Engineering Technical Services and working in a challenging and exciting environment, you will help deliver safe, high-quality engineering outcomes across a range of capital and sustaining projects. What you’ll be doing Provide technical expertise ensuring engineering standards, maintainability, and operational requirements are integrated into project designs and executions Design, analyze, review, and stamp structural engineering packages, including technical calculations, drawings, and specifications using tools such as STAAD.Pro. Lead and independently conduct technical reviews of engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with Rio Tinto standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. Develop, maintain, and govern structural engineering standards, work practices, and systems to support consistent and effective project execution. Partner with operations, maintenance, and project teams to integrate engineering requirements, maintainability considerations, and risk mitigation strategies into project designs and site improvements. Provide technical leadership, mentorship, onboarding, and training to engineers and team members while promoting engineering excellence and continuous improvement. Support the Management of Change (MOC) process, incident investigations, root cause analyses, and risk assessment activities including HAZOP, LOPA, and PHA reviews. Respond to critical structural issues and emerging operational risks, providing timely engineering expertise to minimize business interruptions and support safe production. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural specialization, or equivalent combination of qualifications and relevant experience. Professional Engineer registration with PEGNL, or eligibility to obtain registration. Extensive experience delivering engineering or maintenance solutions in a large-scale industrial, mining, processing, or brownfield environment. Experience leading technical scope, consultants and stakeholders across multidisciplinary projects. Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications for engineering and project delivery activities. Helpful for Success Experience supporting iron ore processing facilities, rail infrastructure and/or port operations. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Working knowledge of STAAD Pro or equivalent structural analysis software. Working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) in AutoCAD and familiarity with Bluebeam or similar mark-up software.
