NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and innovative Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Acute Medical Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment, providing high-quality, person-centred assessment and intervention for adults with complex medical, functional, cognitive, and discharge planning needs.

The post holder will play a key role in supporting patients to maximise independence, promote safe and timely discharge, and contribute to the continued development of the rehabilitation-focused Acute Medical Service. This role offers the opportunity to work within a supportive team environment where innovation, professional development, and continuous improvement are actively encouraged.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Permanent, 36 hours per week

Shift Pattern - Monday - Sunday

Base location - Glasgow Royal Infirmary

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, person-centred occupational therapy assessment and intervention for adults with complex needs.
  • Support patients to maximise independence and achieve safe, timely discharge from hospital.
  • Work collaboratively with patients, families, carers, and a wide range of health and social care professionals.
  • Identify barriers to independence and develop tailored rehabilitation plans to support recovery and improve outcomes.
  • Contribute to enhanced patient flow, reduced deconditioning, and improved rehabilitation outcomes within Acute Medicine.
  • Support the service's rehabilitation agenda and contribute to the successful implementation of service developments.
  • Provide clinical supervision and support to junior Occupational Therapy staff, Healthcare Support Workers, and students.
  • Contribute to teaching, learning, and workforce development within the Acute Medical Team.
  • Foster a positive learning environment and promote evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in service improvement, innovation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Knowledge of occupational therapy assessment and intervention for adults with complex medical, functional, cognitive, and discharge planning needs.
  • Understanding of rehabilitation principles and person-centred care within an acute hospital setting.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with a wide range of health and social care professionals.
  • Experience or ability to support clinical supervision, mentoring, teaching, and workforce development.
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice, continuous professional development, and service improvement.
  • Understanding of safe discharge planning and rehabilitation pathways that promote independence and recovery.

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application, but your answers must be your own.

  • Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.

Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you, not an AI tool.
