Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer – Nuclear Hardness & Survivability (NH&S) to join our diverse Specialty Engineering team in Melbourne, Florida. This engineer will lead nuclear survivability and hardness activities, supporting design and mitigation strategies to develop and field a survivable weapon system with operational requirements across multiple threat environments. Responsibilities The Sr. Principal Systems Engineer will implement and mature the weapon system threat-environment compliance and certification program, drive product development and program completion, and lead weapon system analysis and verification efforts for components, equipment, subsystems, and the air vehicle. Key responsibilities include: • Perform and lead core Systems Engineering functions such as requirements development, analysis, decomposition, and traceability for nuclear survivability and hardness requirements. • Provide cross IPT technical support for development/certification efforts, including development and review of SSOW/SDRL/CDRLs and completion of trade studies focused on NH&S impacts. • Provide technical guidance and direction to IPTs and suppliers on nuclear survivability requirements, design criteria, and verification approaches. • Participate in and influence requirement/design Allocation Control Boards (ACBs), Technical Review Boards (TRBs), and other program reviews and boards, representing NH&S interests and risks. • Generate weapon system design criteria supported by design analysis, modeling and simulation, equipment and system level trade studies, system integration, and test artifacts at piece part, component, equipment, and system levels. • Develop nuclear hardness system level design strategies, including system level analysis and testing in support of the acquisition life cycle and certification goals. • Lead or review supplier artifacts such as drawings, Qualification Test Plans & Procedures, Qualification Test Reports, and Qualification by Similarity substantiating data for NH&S compliance. • Contribute to and review system level NH&S Design Analysis Reports (DARs) and nuclear hardness system test plans and reports documenting equipment compliance and weapon system certification. • Prepare and present nuclear survivability engineering artifacts and status at internal and external design reviews, ensuring clear linkage between requirements, analyses, test results, and weapon system performance traceability. Basic Qualifications • Bachelor of Science (BS) in a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience; OR Master of Science (MS) in a relevant STEM discipline and 6 years of related engineering experience; OR PhD in a relevant STEM discipline and 4 years of related engineering experience. • US Citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance prior to employment. • Demonstrated experience effectively communicating technical approaches and concepts to customers, engineers, and management across multiple disciplines. • Experience performing technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, risk assessments, and compliance analysis for weapon system–level design efforts. • Experience with requirements development and decomposition, including translating threat driven survivability and hardness needs into system, subsystem, and equipment level requirements. Preferred Qualifications • Proven experience leading multi disciplinary teams in a technical leadership or team lead role, particularly in survivability, hardness, or specialty engineering domains. • Experience developing key performance and survivability requirements, decomposing them into functional elements, and developing system designs/architectures that satisfy operational, environmental, and certification constraints. • Experience with Systems Engineering processes and tools for development and management of certification and non functional artifacts (e.g., Cameo, DOORS/DOORS Next, or similar). • Prior experience supporting nuclear survivability or hardness analyses and test programs, including familiarity with relevant standards, test methodologies, and certification processes. Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
