Staff Software Engineer

Staff Engineer – Cards | Dubai, UAE

We're partnering with one of the UAE's leading FinTech's to hire a Staff Engineer for its Cards Engineering team.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an experienced engineer who has built modern card products at scale. You'll help shape the architecture and technical direction of one of the bank's most critical customer-facing domains, working across the full card ecosystem.

What you'll be doing

• Provide technical leadership across the Cards domain.
• Design and build highly scalable, resilient backend systems powering card products.
• Define architecture, engineering standards, and long-term technical strategy.
• Mentor senior engineers and influence technical decisions across multiple teams.
• Work closely with Product, Design, Risk, Operations, and Engineering leadership to deliver new capabilities.
• Drive reliability, performance, security, and engineering excellence.

What we're looking for

• Experience as a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Lead Engineer, or equivalent technical leadership role.
• Strong experience building card products within a digital bank, fintech, issuer processor, or modern financial institution.
• Deep knowledge across multiple areas of the cards ecosystem, including:
• Card issuing
• Credit and debit cards
• Virtual and physical cards
• Card lifecycle management
• Authorisation and transaction processing
• Card controls and customer features
• Digital wallets and tokenisation
• Disputes and chargebacks
• Fraud and risk controls
• Rewards, limits, and card servicing
• Visa and Mastercard integrations
• Strong background designing distributed systems, APIs, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native platforms.
• Proven ability to influence architecture and mentor engineering teams.

Nice to have

• Experience within leading digital banks or fintechs such as Monzo, Revolut, Starling, Nubank, Wise, Chime, Cash App, or similar.
• Experience building high-availability, customer-facing financial products at scale.
