As a Staff Steering Systems Engineer, you will drive the design, development, and execution of next-generation steering systems. This position involves development, validation, and vehicle integration of steering systems into Ford Motor Company vehicles. You will bridge deep technical expertise in electro-mechanical hardware, chassis controls software, electrical and system-level architecture with rigorous engineering discipline to optimize steering performance, safety, cost, and manufacturability. Working across concept design, feasibility analysis, and full-vehicle validation, you will play a central role in delivering best-in-class steering and vehicle attributes for our next-generation portfolio. What you'll do... Advanced System Design & Requirements Definition Lead delivery of new mechanical steering component designs (3D, Drawings, CAE), balancing cost, quality, weight, and functional requirements. Lead Functional Requirement definition, implementation, validation, and vehicle integration of advanced steering system. Feasibility, Analysis & Functional Safety Perform and lead steering system implementation design reviews and analysis, including system functionality, electro-mechanical hardware reviews, electrical architecture, Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA), and fault management and diagnostic strategies. Ensure Functional Safety (ISO-26262) is met with the system design and validation. Manage steering suppliers to achieve program milestone deliverables for overall system function. Prototyping, Testing & Root Cause Resolution Conduct vehicle level testing for system validation and lead issue investigations including vehicle data collection and root cause analysis. Conduct component and vehicle level testing to validate steering performance across prototype and production platforms. Collaborate with Vehicle Engineering and Driver Assistance Feature Engineers to ensure optimal steering performance. Program Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration Ensure on-time delivery of all engineering deliverables. Support the vehicle launch by travelling to build and validation sites. Demonstrate effective communication and project management skills, along with strong leadership skills, passion for problem solving, passion for quality, and passion to improve customer satisfaction. You'll have... Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline (Master’s preferred). Experience: 8+ years of automotive engineering experience (or related mobility sector), with exposure to electric vehicle (EV) platforms preferred. Technical Mastery: Solid foundation in core engineering principles (statics, dynamics, materials, thermal) and their practical application to complex vehicle systems and manufacturing processes. CAD Capability: Strong proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (3DEXPERIENCE preferred). Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills, with a track record of effective cross-functional partnership. Even better, you may have... Electromechanical Design: Experience designing, prototyping, and validating electromechanical chassis systems. Full Lifecycle Experience: Demonstrated history of bringing chassis systems from initial concept through design freeze, validation, and full-volume production delivery. Vehicle Dynamics Expertise: Deep knowledge of chassis architectures, kinematics, elastokinematics, and vehicle dynamics fundamentals. Design for Manufacturing & GD&T: Advanced understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes (castings, forgings, stampings, extrusions) and technical drawing practices (GD&T per ASME standards). Tools & Process: Proficiency with agile project tracking and technical documentation tools (e.g., Atlassian JIRA, Confluence). This position is a leadership level 6 and ranges from $150,200-$283,500. Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
