The Great Bear project is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district, and represents one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally. The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit that could support a large, long-life mine complex. Kinross’ comprehensive exploration and development program will aim to support the vision of a quality, high-grade, open-pit mine and a longer-term, sizeable underground mine. Job Summary The Training Superintendent leads the training function, and is accountable for the performance, priorities, and results of the training team to ensure training objectives are met within the operational readiness area. Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Superintendent applies functional and technical expertise to set direction, build a skilled and work-ready workforce, and deliver competency-based training across mining, processing, and maintenance disciplines. Work activities are typically performed by training advisors, and the role partners with operational and functional leaders to align training plans with site, and organizational objectives through the project’s development and ramp-up. Key Responsibilities and Duties Leadership & Team Management Provide leadership and direction to training professionals within the technical training function, managing short- to medium-term planning and coordination of the team’s work. Set priorities and performance objectives for the training team and hold members accountable for the timely, high-quality completion of training deliverables. Coach, develop, and motivate team members to achieve team objectives and continuously build their capability. Training Strategy & Program Delivery Develop, prioritize, and execute the site technical training plan, aligning organizational, and site operational plans with project milestones. Oversee the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of competency-based training programs and assessments for mining, processing, maintenance, and other technical disciplines. Contribute to departmental business and operational plans and training priorities for the operational readiness function. Apply industry and professional standards to training content, competency assessment, and record keeping—including contractor management on-site. Operational Partnership & Problem Solving Apply an understanding of how the training team’s work contributes to and impacts overall operational readiness objectives, partnering with operational leaders to identify and close skills gaps. Identify and resolve functional and technical training problems, assess non-standard training requests, and escalate more complex, strategic issues to the Manager, Human Resources. Influence and negotiate with operational and functional stakeholders to secure participation, schedules, and resources, presenting moderately complex issues clearly. . Resourcing, Records & Decision Making Forecast training resource needs and direct the allocation of training resources—people, facilities, equipment, and materials—within the function to meet objectives. Maintain accurate training records, competency assessments, and compliance documentation, and report on training performance and metrics. Make decisions guided by company policies, the department plan, and industry/professional standards, receiving guidance and oversight from the Manager, Human Resources. Health, Safety & Results Champion a strong safety culture by embedding health, safety, and environmental standards into every training program and delivery method. Ensure training drives measurable improvements in workforce competency, safety performance, equipment reliability, and operational and cost effectiveness. Qualifications and Skill Requirements 5+ years in a technical training role, including experience in a Supervisory position is required Journeyperson trade certification, Common Core (surface and/or underground), or equivalent technical qualification in equipment operation, mining, or processing discipline is preferred Valid Ontario driver’s license, or equivalent Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS), training records administration, and Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of Ontario’s occupational health and safety legislation and mining regulations. Train-the-Trainer, instructional design, or adult education certification is preferred. Local candidates, or those willing to relocate, with relocation assistance, will be given priority for this position. The schedule for this position is 5X2 or 7X7. Compensation and Total Rewards The base salary for the Training Superintendent is $160,000.00 to $175,000.00 + Short Term Incentive, + Long Term Incentive, + Group Benefit Coverage. The hiring range reflects our targeted compensation framework for the role. The actual offer will be determined through a comprehensive evaluation of each candidate's experience, capabilities, and potential impact, along with consideration of internal equity, team structure, and benchmark market data for similar positions.
