Location: This position is onsite at JH Campbell Unit 1&2 located in West Olive, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify). This position is a timebound full-time opportunity designed to support a specific business need with an anticipated duration through cessation of operations and cold and dark activities (retiring the generating facility) transition with an anticipated duration through approximately 2028. As a timebound employee, you will receive competitive compensation and full benefits consistent with company policy. During this assignment, you are not eligible to apply for other opportunities until six months before the conclusion of the assignment. If you are unable to find another role within six months of the assignment end, your employment will be separated. General Summary of Job Responsibilities The Supervisor, Fuel Handling is responsible for the planning, organization, coordination, evaluation, and supervision of all Fuel Handling Department operations. This position leads a team responsible for the safe receipt and unloading of coal railcars and the continuous supply of coal to plant boilers through a complex conveyor system that fuels plant operations. The incumbent also supervises activities related to the management of bottom ash ponds, fly ash silos, and the ash landfill, where byproducts of the coal combustion process are stored and managed. All responsibilities are performed in compliance with applicable regulatory, environmental, and safety standards. *Position works an alternative 8 on 6 off schedule with 10 hour shifts. Position will be either day shift (0600-1630) or night shift (1800-0430). Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop and maintain visual management tools, problem-solving processes, and Lean methodologies, while promoting employee education and utilization of these practices. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and oversee work management activities by executing monthly maintenance plans and managing emergent repairs. Manage fleet vehicle condition, maintenance, and repair quality. Directly supervise union employees involved in the operation of fuel handling and landfill equipment. Ensure equipment reliability and operational integrity through employee training, Business Continuity Plan compliance, adherence to the Code of Conduct, and compliance with all company policies and procedures. Perform administrative responsibilities including timesheet approvals, estimated straight-time accounting, training scheduling, Read and Sign compliance, ARCOS data entry, editing and reporting, on-call resource coordination, and the acquisition, inspection, testing, replacement, and distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE). Lead grievance management processes, conduct safety and disciplinary investigations, and administer corrective or disciplinary actions as appropriate. Lead and participate in Daily Operating Reviews, Weekly Operating Reviews, Monthly Operating Reviews, Rally Rooms, Problem-Solving Events, Safety, Health and Guidance Teams, Safety Culture Teams, and Safety Grassroots Teams. Deliver safety communications, oversee employee safety practices, identify and mitigate workplace hazards, and ensure housekeeping standards throughout the fuel handling process meet combustible dust requirements. Ensure compliance with the Corporate Safety Manual, Procedures Manual, MIOSHA regulations, and OSHA standards. Coordinate and direct fuel handling activities, including coal deliveries by rail or vessel, railcar switching operations, and interactions with on-site railcar repair facilities. Ensure the consistent delivery of quality fuel to all bunkers supporting plant operations. Administer switching and tagging procedures and manage the placement and disposal of spray dryer absorber (SDA) byproducts. Understand and manage departmental metrics, financial performance, and budget requirements. Identify, develop, and implement waste elimination and automation initiatives, while generating and driving cost-saving opportunities through completion. Perform other duties as assigned or required to support business operations. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Knowledge of Waste Elimination and automation methodologies. Effective presentation and public-speaking skills. Ability to train, mentor, and transfer knowledge to others. Understanding of Lean principles and First-Time Quality methodologies. Ability to interpret and adhere to collective bargaining agreements. Strong commitment to corporate safety policies and procedures. Demonstrated leadership and decision-making abilities. Proven ability to coach, develop, and lead team members. Education/Experience Bachelor's degree in a scientific, technical, or related field and two (2) or more years of experience working with conveyor systems and industrial equipment. Technical knowledge of power plant operations gained through formal education and/or related work experience is required.
