About Impulso.Space

Impulso.Space puts satellites into orbit. We build and manage rideshare missions: aggregating payloads from multiple customers on a single flight, integrating them, and accompanying them until release into orbit alongside major international launch providers. We are an Italian company with a subsidiary in the United States.

Role Overview

You will take charge of the systems engineering and architectural design for our upcoming launch missions. As the core technical authority, you will engineer the solutions that ensure perfect physical and functional compatibility between customer payloads, deployers, and launch vehicles, while also providing systems engineering support for internal projects and company assets.

  • Position: System Engineer
  • Contract: Full-time, Permanent (CCNL Metalmeccanico Industria)
  • Salary: €38,000 – €45,000 Gross Annual Salary (RAL), commensurate with experience
  • Location: Full Remote (Italy), with approximately 2 days per month at headquarters in the Treviso area
  • Travel: Up to 2–4 consecutive weeks per campaign at facilities in Florida and launch sites (Vandenberg SFB, Cape Canaveral)
  • Reports to: Chief Operating Officer / Technical Director

Key Responsibilities

Systems Engineering & Requirements

  • Translate mission objectives into detailed technical specifications, defining system requirements and engineering architectures for complex rideshare configurations.
  • Provide Systems Engineering support for internal company projects, tools, and technical developments alongside customer and launch provider interface management.
  • Draft, verify, and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs), engineering the mechanical, electrical, and data boundaries between payloads, deployers, and the launch vehicle.
  • Perform rigorous technical validation of safety data packages and mission analyses, ensuring engineering parameters meet exact launch constraints.
  • Provide deep technical expertise during engineering reviews (PDR, CDR, SRR), driving the resolution of design discrepancies and hardware non-conformities.
  • Ensure strict technical adherence to space industry engineering standards and specific launch provider requirements (e.g., SpaceX).

Design, Analysis & Verification

  • Analyze mechanical and electrical interfaces (mounting patterns, connectors, breakwire harnesses, separation switches/springs).
  • Verify mass properties, center of gravity, reference frames, and payload orientation relative to the launch vehicle frame.
  • Track and manage technical budgets (mass, volume, power, and safety margins).

CAD, Stacking & Fit Checks

  • Build 3D CAD assemblies of support structures, deployers, and payloads.
  • Define and optimize launch vehicle stacking configurations (clearances, mass balance, release sequence).
  • Perform virtual fit checks and lead physical fit check activities at the integration facility.

Assembly, Integration & Testing (AIT)

  • Define integration, stowage, and functional testing procedures for separation systems.
  • Develop Verification & Validation (V&V) plans and draft test reports for hardware compliance.
  • Lead on-site AIT operations during launch campaigns, from cleanroom preparation in Florida to final launch site integration.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required

  • Master’s degree in Aerospace/Astronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in the space industry as a System Engineer, or with a specific focus on Attitude and Orbit Control Systems (AOCS) / Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC), Propulsion, mechanical/systems design, or AIT (2+ years considered if candidate held full technical ownership).
  • Professional fluency in English and Italian (spoken and written).
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (CATIA, NX, Creo, SolidWorks) for assembly management and interface verification.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for up to 2–4 consecutive weeks per campaign.
  • Strong organizational autonomy for remote and distributed team operations.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of space engineering standards (e.g., ECSS, NASA Systems Engineering Handbook).
  • Familiarity with FEM or thermal analysis tools (e.g., NASTRAN, ANSYS, Thermal Desktop).
  • Hands-on cleanroom experience, ESD protocol knowledge, and GSE operation.
  • Hands-on experience in the design, analysis, or testing of AOCS/GNC systems or satellite propulsion subsystems.

What We Offer

  • Full remote work flexibility with comprehensive travel coverage (flights, lodging, per diem, international health insurance, and visa support).
  • Dedicated budget for professional training and certifications.
  • Structured career path toward Technical Lead / Lead System Engineer roles.
