Role Overview

Each tribe is divided into multiple squads, consisting of 5-10 individuals. Team Lead in Payments Gateway Team role is responsible for organizing, managing, and leading the squad. From managerial aspect, this role steps in instead of Product Manager, who up-until now has been leading the squad. Role primarily focuses on establishing a healthy work environment and collaborative process to maximize team efficiency and maintain good pace and quality of work. A team manager must ensure that all members are aligned, understand team's objectives and work together to achieve it.

Team Lead role will be reporting to one of the Engineering Managers of the tribe.

This role follows a hybrid approach to working, allowing you to combine working from home with working in our modern offices. These discussions are between you and your manager to find the best pattern for you both! We will kit you out to work from home but know that working as a team is what makes us great and spending quality time together is essential for keeping us mission-aligned.

Duties And Responsibilities

Engineering People Management

• Participate in the recruitment process to hire engineers for the squad. The focus will be on the human and cultural aspects.
• Guide and mentor team, manage skills gaps and ensure we have balanced teams fit to deliver against business objectives.
• Directly manage engineers of the squad. This includes regular 1 to 1s, performance management, mentoring, guidance and probation follow through.
• Foster a cohesive, creative, and comfortable working environment, mediating any interpersonal issues within the team.
• Handle on-call schedules where necessary and team member vacations ensuring adequate contingency.
• Develop & motivate those in your team by providing clear direction, opportunities for learning & direct coaching. Pro-actively manage any individual performance.
• Ensure the team are set up and delivering on their roadmap alligned to Singulars Vision & Mission.
  
  

Foster a Sustainable & Scalable Engineering Culture

• Evangelize & prioritize engineering best practice in the squad, so we have a clear direction for continuous improvement.
• Keep an eye on the well-being and performance of the team.
• Collaborate with assigned Scrum Master and be responsible for adherence to the Tribe’s SDLC and ways of working.
• Collaborate with Solutions Architects and be responsible for adherence to the Tribe’s technology principles.
• Collaborate with assigned Product Managers and Product Owners to prioritize squad’s backlog.
• Take responsibility for managing technical debt, evolving coding practices, and aging code risks. Input into framework & language choice, development build and deployment tooling.
• Liase with Operations teams to ensure problems, incidents & bugs are also getting roadmap time and there is a balance between new features and operating our products to agreed SLA’s
  
  

Champion Quality and Continuous Improvement

• Work with other Team Leads, Test Managers and other stakeholders to ensure we deliver high quality engineering solutions.
• Measure the team’s performance through established agile metrics and clear goals.
• Ensure we provide technical expertise in incident management, root cause analysis, post incident decisions and oversee that any remedial work is carried out.
• Constantly seek to make our engineering better: the skills and expertise of the team, improving delivery predictability and speed, operational awareness and responsibility.

Qualifications

Working Experience:

• 3+ Years of experience in a senior software engineering position;
• Experience of mentoring people in engineering teams;
• Experience working with SaaS products;
• Experience working with cross functional teams in a technology domain.
  
  

Standard Qualifications

• Good understanding of agile and scrum methodologies;
• Proficiency with Atlassian tools (especially JIRA & Confluence);
• Advanced level of English Language.
  
  

Preferable Qualifications

• Experience working with OKRs;
• Basic knowledge of human psychology to be able to understand people better;
• Knowledge of SAFe framework;
• Business specific experience/domain-knowledge is a plus.
