Project/Job description

In the Department of ComplexSE, we are now offering a postdoctoral position within the Q-VERSE EU project, which aims to provide a ready-to-use quantum software toolkit that supports various APIs and HPC interfaces in an open and transparent manner for Europe’s quantum developers and industry stakeholders. Q-VERSE will develop dedicated GAIA-X-compliant quantum interfaces and will build its foundation on the first fully European-developed, open-source quantum software development kit, Eclipse Qrisp.

The postdoctoral fellow will carry out research on software infrastructure and enabling components for hybrid quantum–classical computing. The work will concentrate on creating frameworks and middleware that facilitate the integration of quantum computing with traditional HPC and cloud environments. Main activities include designing quantum–classical workflow frameworks, developing testing and benchmarking platforms for quantum applications and platforms, and building integration middleware to support European HPC and cloud infrastructures.

The postdoctoral researcher will coordinate the work package led by Simula, monitor task progress, and lead the preparation of project deliverables for which Simula is responsible, while also contributing to deliverables led by other project partners in which Simula is a contributor. The position involves close collaboration with international academic and industrial partners and contributions to the development of open-source tools and experimental platforms for real-world quantum computing applications.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for interested candidates who have:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong programming and system development skills and experience with quantum computing software architectures or middleware.
  • Strong expertise with software testing, benchmarking, and performance evaluation tools is desirable.
  • Interest in quantum computing and hybrid quantum–classical systems, with motivation to work in an international research collaboration.

Simula Offers

  • Excellent opportunities for performing high-quality research, as part of a highly competent and motivated team of international researchers and engineers;
  • An informal and inclusive international working environment;
  • Generous support for travel and opportunities to build international networks, through established collaboration with industry, exchange programs and research visits with other universities, and funding to attend conferences.
  • Modern office facilities located in downtown Oslo
  • A competitive salary. Starting salary from NOK 595000
  • Numerous benefits: access to company cabin, sponsored social events, generous equipment budgets (e.g., computer, phone and subscription), subsidized canteen meals, comprehensive travel/health insurance policy, etc.
  • Relocation assistance: accommodation, visas, complimentary Norwegian language courses, etc
  • Administrative research support: e.g., quality assurance process for grant proposals (including RCN and EU programs).
  • Wellness and work-life balance. Our employees’ health and well-being is a priority and we encourage them to make use of our flexible work arrangements to help balance their work and home lives efficiently.
