Job Description

This position requires you to reside in Japan during your employment with Wizcorp.

Wizcorp is looking for highly experienced Unity Programmers to work on exciting projects for next-generation consoles. Depending on your background, skills, and experience, we’ll find the most suitable role within our teams.

Is this job for me?

You have several years of work experience working with Unity and have released games on PC and consoles. C# needs to be your lingua franca, but you should also not be afraid to deep-dive into the engine itself, building plugins and tools in C++ or any other language necessary to make improvements. You have experience solving deep, complex problems in the various Unity rendering pipelines, the Addressables system, and other key systems of Unity. Sounds like you?

Then this job is for you!

Typical day 🎮📆🕹️

You start your day by reviewing code from other engineers and ensuring they meet quality expectations. Some days will be spent implementing control systems for consoles in a clean and extensible manner, or investigating performance on the target platform and modifying the game or engine to improve this.

Afternoons will often be spent testing updated code on target platforms to ensure correctness and performance.

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Utilize their full grasp of Unity's lifecycle, including domain reloading, scene management and deep profiling
  • Work confidently to solve deep, complex problems in Unity's rendering pipelines - primarily URP, with familiarity in HDRP, SRP, or custom pipelines considered a strong plus.
  • Structure and build logical, performant groups of assets using the Addressables system
  • Design and implement custom editor extensions, inspectors, and tools to streamline workflows
  • Work autonomously on your code with minimal oversight
  • Break down large features into engineering tasks and work with other engineers to complete them
  • Mentor engineers in software development best practices
  • Have an interest in working on both games and their tools
  • Confidently communicate with all members of the company

Roles and Responsibilities 🛠️🧪✨

  • Estimate own tasks and deliver them in a timely manner
  • Write clear, maintainable code that passes review by other senior engineers
  • Raise all blockers when they arise to the project lead
  • Navigate large existing codebases to find and solve complex performance issues
  • Iterate solutions on systems without breaking functionality
  • Test and document provided solutions to ensure their effective, regardless of platform
  • Implement and uphold software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle
  • Take ownership of large areas of the code base and large complex features
  • Coordinate with members outside of the engineering team to deliver features in a timely manner
  • Determine large feature feasibility and propose solutions
  • Provide solid programming expertise to deliver large features and architecture suggestions
  • Provide code review analysis that uses all relevant experience to foresee problems with design and implementation

Application process 🈸⚙️😊

① Online selection

We review resumes from all applicants within 2 weeks. If your profile matches our requirements, we will send you tests and challenges. Based on the results, we will contact you again to schedule the first interview.

② Interviews

We conduct three interviews to assess your character, passions, skills, and interest in what we do. We also take the time to share our vision and values, as we believe you are interviewing us as much as we are interviewing you.

③ Reference Checks

We conduct reference checks with your previous employers or professional contacts to better understand your experience and working style.

④ Offer

We make our final decision within 2 weeks after the final interview, and send a detailed offer upon success.
