Careers that change lives start here. Medtronic is a global leader in healthcare technology with a Mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. Our 95,000 employees work across more than 150 countries to put patients first — developing innovative medical technologies that improve the lives of 72+ million patients each year. Your unique talents will help shape the future of healthcare while building a career grounded in purpose, growth, and impact. A Day in the Life The Surgical Operating Unit strives to enable earlier diagnosis, better treatment, faster complication-free recovery, and enhanced patient outcomes through less invasive surgical solutions across the care continuum. Be a part of a company that thinks differently to solve problems, make progress, and deliver meaningful innovations. We are seeking a committed professional to join our team. While this is a remote position not located at a physical Medtronic site, the candidate hired will be required to reside within the territory and drive to multiple accounts throughout the region. A valid driver's license is essential for this role. The Director, U.S. Hernia Commercial Business Leader will drive the success and growth of the U.S. Surgical Hernia business by translating commercial strategy into focused, scalable activation. This leader is accountable for channel focus, national pipeline management, conversion excellence, clinical expertise, community engagement, and actionable business insights. Working in close partnership with Marketing, Sales, Commercial Operations, Finance, Medical Education, and other cross-functional teams, this role connects strategy to field execution while maintaining clear ownership boundaries across the commercial organization. The ideal candidate is a proven commercial leader who can mobilize a national sales channel through influence, disciplined operating mechanisms, and deep Hernia market and clinical expertise. This individual will convert Marketing’s commercial strategy—including market selection, positioning, promotion, pricing, portfolio direction, and demand planning—into prioritized channel actions and measurable growth. The leader will enable Sales to execute at the account level by providing clear targeting, a healthy and prioritized pipeline, best-in-class conversion processes, clinical upskilling, and timely market insights. We value what makes you unique. Be a part of a company that thinks differently to solve problems, make progress, and deliver meaningful innovations. A Day in the Life Commercial Activation: Focus the channel: Translate Hernia strategy into account segmentation, targeting, priorities, and performance expectations with Marketing and Sales Leadership. Lead the pipeline: Manage and prioritize the national SFDC pipeline, ensuring stage discipline, visibility to risks and opportunities, and escalation of the highest-impact opportunities. Accelerate conversions: Standardize best-in-class conversion processes, engage major opportunities, remove barriers, and mobilize cross-functional resources to drive adoption and protect the base. Build clinical capability: Strengthen channel expertise across Hernia procedures, products, evidence, and competitive differentiation; scale repeatable best practices with training, medical education, technical, and field partners. Connect the community: Unite people, purpose, and products across Hernia while advancing shared opportunities with GYN and Robotic Stapling stakeholders. Performance and Insights: Monitor revenue, growth, market share, new product sales, pipeline, conversions, and KOL development; identify gaps and lead corrective activation. Translate field, customer, competitive, pipeline, and conversion signals into clear risks, opportunities, resource needs, and recommended actions. Lead recurring performance reviews and provide actionable insights for AOP, monthly forecasts, and quarterly business reviews; Marketing retains demand-planning ownership. Cross-Functional Leadership: Connect Marketing strategy to Sales execution without duplicating ownership: Marketing leads strategy, positioning, promotion, pricing, portfolio, and demand planning; Sales leads account relationships, contracting, opportunity management, forecasting, demand creation, customer reviews, and distribution partnerships. Align U.S. and Global Marketing, Sales Leadership and field teams, Finance, Commercial Operations, Sales Training, Medical Education, Enterprise and Strategic Accounts, and other partners around activation priorities. Engage select U.S. Key Opinion Leaders to inform activation, education, evidence needs, and adoption in coordination with Marketing, Medical Affairs, and Sales. Establish clear operating mechanisms, metrics, communications, and accountability; represent U.S. Surgical at appropriate industry forums and advance One Surgical opportunities. Travel up to 50% of the time. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and at least 10+ years, or advanced degree and at least 8 years of commercial or technical experience in sales, marketing, market development, clinical, or related functions, including 7+ years in the surgical market or a closely related area. Preferred Qualifications MBA or advanced degree preferred Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, mobilize cross-functional teams, and drive change without direct authority. Strong strategic thinking paired with exceptional activation and execution discipline. Experience managing national opportunity pipelines, conversion programs, targeting, performance metrics, and business reviews; proficiency with SFDC or comparable CRM systems. Strong financial and business acumen, including the ability to interpret revenue, growth, market share, pipeline, pricing, and margin implications. Effective executive communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build credibility and followership across Marketing, Sales, and cross-functional teams. Demonstrated success improving channel capability, scaling best practices, and delivering measurable commercial outcomes. Ability to synthesize complex strategies and data into clear priorities, decisions, and actions. Deep Hernia market, procedural, clinical, product, customer, and competitive expertise. Experience leading complex, multi-account conversions and working with regional, strategic account, enterprise, distributor, and clinical stakeholders. Strong understanding of market research, segmentation, change leadership, adult learning, and adoption principles.
