Position Overview Ecowaste Solutions is seeking an experienced and strategic Vice President of Safety to lead the Company's enterprise-wide safety, regulatory compliance, risk management, and safety culture initiatives. Reporting to executive leadership, the Vice President of Safety will serve as the Company's senior safety leader and strategic advisor, establishing and executing a comprehensive safety vision that protects employees, customers, the public, Company assets, and the organization's reputation. This position will provide leadership across transportation, fleet operations, facilities, environmental health and safety, regulatory compliance, training, and risk mitigation. The VP of Safety will ensure the Company's policies, programs, processes, and operations comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations while continuously improving safety performance and strengthening a culture of accountability and operational excellence. The successful candidate will be a visible and engaged leader who can effectively partner with executives, operations leaders, managers, and employees while maintaining strong relationships with regulatory and enforcement agencies and industry organizations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Enterprise Safety Leadership Develop, implement, and continuously improve the Company's comprehensive safety strategy, policies, programs, and initiatives. Establish safety objectives, performance standards, and measurable goals aligned with the Company's overall business strategy. Serve as the senior subject-matter expert and executive advisor on safety, regulatory compliance, risk management, and workplace health and safety matters. Build and maintain a strong, company-wide safety culture through leadership engagement, accountability, education, communication, and continuous improvement. Partner with executive and operational leadership to identify safety risks and develop effective mitigation strategies. Establish and monitor key safety performance indicators, trends, leading indicators, and corrective actions, providing regular reporting and recommendations to executive leadership. Promote a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating operational, regulatory, employee, and public safety risks. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management Maintain comprehensive compliance programs covering, as applicable, Hours of Service, Roadside Inspections, Hazmat, OSHA, IFTA, citations, drug and alcohol testing, driver qualification files, and other transportation and workplace safety requirements. Ensure Company policies and procedures remain compliant with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and industry standards. Maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes and assess their potential impact on Company operations. Lead the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and controls necessary to maintain regulatory compliance and minimize organizational risk. Provide consultation and guidance to executive leadership, management, and employees regarding regulatory requirements and Company safety policies. Oversee periodic regulatory and operational audits to evaluate program effectiveness, identify areas of non-compliance, and ensure timely corrective action. Conduct and oversee facility inspections, route observations, operational audits, and other safety assessments. Develop and monitor corrective and preventive action plans resulting from audits, inspections, incidents, and regulatory findings. Regulatory & Government Relations Serve as a primary Company representative with federal, state, and local regulatory and enforcement agencies on safety and compliance matters. Lead the Company's response to regulatory audits, inspections, investigations, and site reviews to achieve positive outcomes and minimize exposure and risk. Develop and maintain professional relationships with regulatory officials and industry safety organizations. Represent the Company at Federal, State, and Local industry and regulatory conferences and events. Monitor regulatory developments and proactively communicate significant changes and required actions to executive and operational leadership. Safety Training & Employee Engagement Establish and oversee enterprise-wide safety training programs designed to educate employees, reinforce safe working practices, and reduce workplace and operational risk. Ensure effective safety onboarding and ongoing training for drivers, dispatchers, scale operators, managers, field personnel, and other employees. Partner with operational leadership to integrate safety into daily business processes and decision-making. Promote employee engagement and accountability through safety communications, initiatives, recognition programs, and continuous education. Evaluate training effectiveness and implement improvements based on safety performance, incidents, audits, and regulatory changes. Incident Prevention & Continuous Improvement Establish systems for identifying, investigating, documenting, and addressing safety incidents, near misses, and regulatory violations. Analyze safety data and trends to identify systemic risks and opportunities for improvement. Lead initiatives designed to reduce preventable accidents, injuries, regulatory violations, citations, and other safety-related losses. Ensure lessons learned from incidents, audits, and inspections are incorporated into Company policies, training, and operational practices. Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety performance while supporting efficient and effective business operations. Leadership & Supervisory Responsibilities Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Company's safety and compliance function. Lead, develop, and mentor safety, compliance, training, and related personnel as the organization grows. Establish clear expectations, performance objectives, accountability standards, and professional development plans for the safety organization. Partner with operations leaders and managers to ensure consistent implementation and enforcement of safety policies across the enterprise. Foster a culture in which safety is viewed as a shared organizational responsibility and a core business value. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 10+ years of progressive experience in transportation safety, fleet safety, regulatory compliance, environmental health and safety, risk management, or a related field, with significant leadership responsibility. Bachelor's degree in Safety, Business, Transportation, Risk Management, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Demonstrated experience leading safety and compliance programs across multiple locations, business units, or operational functions. Proven ability to develop and execute enterprise-wide safety strategies and translate regulatory requirements into practical operational programs. Extensive knowledge of transportation safety, fleet compliance, OSHA requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations. Thorough knowledge of 49 CFR Parts 40 and 335–399 (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations) . Strong working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR Parts 1910 and 1926 and MSHA 30 CFR , as applicable to Company operations. Experience with Hours of Service, Roadside Inspections, Hazmat, IFTA, driver qualification files, drug and alcohol testing, citations, audits, and regulatory investigations. Demonstrated success improving safety performance, reducing risk, and building a strong safety culture. Strong analytical and business acumen, with the ability to interpret safety data, identify trends, assess risk, and make sound business recommendations. Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively and tactfully with executive leadership, managers, employees, customers, regulatory and enforcement officials, third-party vendors, medical professionals, and industry organizations. Ability to make timely, well-informed decisions in a professional and decisive manner. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project-management skills. Ability to balance regulatory compliance, employee safety, operational requirements, and business objectives. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Company proprietary software, and safety/compliance data systems. Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments with frequent interaction across Company operations.
