In 2017, the Bank of Canada opened a new Bank of Canada Museum where visitors learn about the work that the Bank does to support the economic well-being of Canadians and explore Canada’s National Currency Collection. Our Museum is both a traditional museum and an interpretive centre. As a public outreach arm of the Bank’s Communications Department, the Museum’s mission is to clarify for Canadians the key functions of the Bank of Canada. In addition, through the National Currency Collection the Museum interprets our monetary heritage, both Canadian and international. This position will support the Visitor Services team by delivering onsite and virtual programs as well as assisting with the development of educational programs and resources for schools which is a key initiative of the Museum. Are you are interested in contributing to the Museum’s mission to help Canadians understand the economy, our economic heritage and the work of the Bank of Canada? What you will do Under the supervision of the Manager, Visitor Services, you help plan, coordinate, implement and deliver front-line services and programs to visitors. In addition, you promote a better understanding of and appreciation for the Museum’s themes as well as the Bank of Canada’s mandate and functions. More specifically, you will: offer high-quality service by delivering educational programs onsite and online, coordinating the daily operation of the Museum, answering questions about all aspects of the Museum and the functions of the Bank, etc. develop, deliver, and provide ongoing training for the VS Team; training focused on best practices for both in-person and virtual program delivery of Museum Educational programs interpret the history and themes set out for the Museum and communicate them to the public through a variety of activities (guided visits, school programs, exhibitions, workshops, interactive games, etc.) provide support to the Museum and the Bank’s social media teams by monitoring trends, scheduling posts, contributing to content creation and liaising with colleagues to identify links between museum initiatives and other public communication priorities of the Bank of Canada. contribute to the evaluation of visitors’ experience by gathering statistics and working on various short-term assignments, e.g., surveying visitors, evaluating Museum programs and services, and supporting Museum operations assign daily tasks to the Museum Guides, including scheduling, special projects, and ensuring high-quality service in all areas of the Museum provide input into the recruitment and performance evaluation of the Museum’s interpretive staff, as well as in the planning, preparation and implementation of training programs in support of the management of the Museum What you need to succeed We are looking for an effective communicator, self-starter, and team player to join our Visitor Services team. You must be organized, and able to plan necessary resources to take steps to achieve objectives. Your problem-solving skills, adaptability and flexibility make you an ideal candidate for this role. We are also looking for someone with strong communication skills, presentation techniques and creativity when interpreting the work of the Bank of Canada to the public (virtually, through social media content and in person). T his position requires availability on weekends and holidays and may be asked to work occasional evening shifts for special events. Nice-to-have Knowledge of the Bank of Canada, economics, the retail sector, and museology Experience as a supervisor, including program delivery Knowledge of best practices for social media content creation Your education and experience This position requires a post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field (e.g., education, public history, Museum education & interpretation studies, museum studies, communications, marketing) and a minimum of one year of work experience coordinating services to the public and a minimum of two years of relevant programming experience (in person and virtual) in a museum or public setting. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
