Team members in this position strive for maximum efficiency in terminal operations and support operations through problem solving, adaptation, and working with other teams. The Terminal Supervisor plans, directs, and coordinates the operations of the facility by implementing changes as necessary. POET Terminals operate on a 5-6 day per week schedule which requires Terminal Supervisors to work a day shift schedule and be prepared to support infrequent calls after hours and nights and weekends. DURING A TYPICAL DAY Supervise terminal facility operations. Supervise the development of Terminal subordinates through skills progression. Request and support execution of facility maintenance. Ensure all daily documentation and required terminal information is completed in a timely and accurate manner. Make terminal facility process decisions including shutting terminal equipment down if necessary. Contact the appropriate department manager with problems/concerns; call in additional team members if needed. Maintain and operate all processes associated with the terminal facility including rail movements, conveyors, bulk- weighers, control room equipment, loading and unloading racks, hard-car unloaders, jockey trucks, mobile container stackers, and portable transload equipment. Develop an understanding of repair and maintenance of terminal equipment and may need to ensure documentation of all maintenance activities. Strive for maximum efficiency in terminal operations, troubleshoot and work with all departments to correct problems. Update procedures and train team members. Perform or supervise preventative and proactive maintenance tasks in a safe and efficient manner. Coordinate effective communication with other teams to ensure safe, efficient and continuous operation. Assure compliance with all company, State and Federal regulatory agency policies and rules; assist in implementing approved changes. Fill in wherever necessary if/when team is short staffed. Effectively manage your team by partnering with leadership to recruit, select, onboard, and train team members. Maintain and advance the food safety and quality of POET’s products and processes to deliver a best-in-class culture of quality. Leadership responsibilities also include: Delegation, coaching and performance management and career development to effectively execute terminal strategies and support company objectives. Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times. Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community. STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE High school diploma or equivalent required; secondary education preferred. Terminal, production, operational, or manufacturing experience is required; operational background in transload terminal is preferred. 3 years of previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to embrace change. You communicate effectively in writing and in person. You have the ability to understand technical and day to day operation of a terminal. You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You’re capable of learning new programs. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This role has some physical requirements that our team members will need to be able to perform, such as: Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds. Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders. Occasionally bending, twisting and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) pounds. Data entry while seated for greater than one (1) hour. Walking up to two (2) or more miles per day. Pushing brooms, shovels, etc. Working at heights, in confined spaces and at temperatures from -20 to +100 degrees. Standing for extended periods of time. Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Due to the physical and safety sensitive nature of this job, you will be subject to a physical and expected to pass a drug screen during the pre-screen process.
