180 Recruitment Consultant – Technology & Product
💰 R20,000–R28,000 per month + commission per placement
📍 South Africa (Remote) | Full-Time | UK Business Hours
Placed by Scaled – connecting exceptional South African talent with world-class global companies
🚀 We're Looking for a 180 Recruitment Conusltant – Technology & Product
We're hiring on behalf of a fast-growing specialist recruitment business focused on Engineering, Product and Design.
The business works with ambitious startups and growing companies, helping them find exceptional talent across the technology and product space.
They're looking for someone to work directly with the founder, speaking to candidates, building talent networks and supporting recruitment across live roles.
And we're looking for someone who is naturally curious, personable and genuinely interested in people.
This isn't a role where you'll simply run through CVs, send LinkedIn messages and tick boxes in a CRM.
You'll have real conversations with candidates, understand what they're good at, learn what motivates them and build relationships that could turn into placements months down the line.
You'll work with everyone from mid-level software engineers to CTOs and Chief Product Officers, so confidence, communication and the ability to ask good questions are essential.
Experience recruiting across technology, product or design would be a huge advantage, particularly within startups.
But more than anything, we're looking for someone who can build relationships, understand people and turn conversations into opportunities.
🎯 The Opportunity
You'll work directly with the founder of a growing recruitment business, helping build its candidate network and deliver on live client roles.
The business is still relatively young, which means there's room to work in an agile environment, contribute ideas and take on more responsibility as it grows.
A key part of your role will be building and maintaining talent pools of software engineers, product managers and product designers.
Not every candidate you speak to will be right for a live vacancy today. But they might be exactly who a client needs in three months.
You'll need to understand who your candidates are, what they're looking for, what they're good at and when it makes sense to reconnect.
When live roles come in, priorities will shift. You'll use your existing talent networks while proactively sourcing and engaging new candidates who fit the brief.
You'll also have the opportunity to contribute beyond recruitment delivery. If your candidate conversations lead to new clients or business opportunities, there will be scope to be rewarded for that contribution.
This is an opportunity to help build a recruitment business, not just fill vacancies.
🛠️ What You'll Be Doing
- Conduct candidate registration calls, typically lasting 5–10 minutes, to introduce the business, build rapport and understand candidates' skills, motivations and career goals.
- Build relationships with candidates across Software Engineering, Product Management and Product Design.
- Ask thoughtful questions to understand candidates' experience beyond what's written on their CV.
- Build, source and maintain talent pools for future recruitment opportunities.
- Keep candidate records, CRM notes and follow-up actions accurate and up to date.
- Use an AI-enabled CRM and notetaking tools to manage candidate information efficiently.
- Prioritise sourcing and candidate engagement when live vacancies come in.
- Proactively identify and approach candidates who match specific client requirements.
- Speak confidently with candidates at different levels, from mid-level professionals through to CTOs and Chief Product Officers.
- Work with the founder and sourcing support to coordinate candidate conversations and recruitment activity.
- Track candidate availability, motivations and career aspirations to identify future placement opportunities.
- Maintain regular contact with candidates and build a strong, long-term professional network.
- Identify potential business development opportunities through candidate conversations and relationships.
- Contribute ideas and help improve recruitment processes as the business grows.
🧠 What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience in recruitment, candidate sourcing, talent acquisition or a similar people-focused role.
- Ideally have recruited across technology, software engineering, product management or design.
- Be a confident communicator who can build rapport quickly.
- Be naturally inquisitive and comfortable asking questions that go beyond a candidate's CV.
- Be able to hold engaging, natural conversations rather than simply working through a checklist.
- Have a genuine interest in understanding what people do, how they work and what they want from their next role.
- Be comfortable speaking with senior professionals, including technical leaders and executives.
- Have strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Understand the importance of accurate CRM records, candidate notes and consistent follow-ups.
- Be proactive when sourcing candidates and managing talent pools.
- Be comfortable switching priorities when a live vacancy requires immediate attention.
- Have excellent written and spoken English.
- Be confident working independently while collaborating closely with a founder.
- Be interested in how AI and automation can improve recruitment workflows.
⭐ Most Importantly...
We're looking for someone who is:
Curious. Personable. Organised. Commercially minded. Relationship-driven.
Someone who genuinely enjoys speaking to people and finding out what makes them tick.
Someone who listens properly, asks follow-up questions and can get beyond the standard interview answers.
Someone who understands that a great candidate relationship isn't built in one conversation — it takes consistent communication, good notes and knowing when to follow up.
Someone who takes pride in their talent pools and knows their candidates well enough to make the right introductions when opportunities arise.
And someone who wants to contribute to the growth of a business rather than simply complete a list of recruitment tasks.
Great recruitment starts with great conversations. We want someone who understands that.
🚫 This Probably Isn't the Role for You If...
- You prefer transactional recruitment and moving candidates through a process without building longer-term relationships.
- You're uncomfortable speaking to candidates on the phone.
- You rely entirely on CVs rather than asking questions to understand someone's experience.
- You struggle to keep CRM records, notes and follow-ups organised.
- You prefer a highly structured corporate environment with little room to influence how things are done.
- You aren't comfortable speaking with senior candidates or technical professionals.
- You only want to focus on live vacancies and aren't interested in building talent networks for future opportunities.
- You need constant direction rather than taking ownership of your candidate relationships.
We're looking for someone who understands that today's conversation could become tomorrow's placement.
💻 Tools, Technology & Ways of Working
The business uses an AI-enabled CRM with integrated notetaking to help capture candidate conversations and maintain accurate records.
You'll be expected to embrace these tools, use them effectively and ensure that candidate information remains organised and actionable.
You don't need to be an AI expert, but you should be comfortable learning new systems and using technology to improve the way you work.
The focus is on spending less time on repetitive administration and more time building relationships, understanding candidates and delivering results.
💰 Pay & Benefits
- R20,000–R28,000 per month, depending on experience.
- Additional commission per placement, rewarding successful recruitment delivery.
- Fully remote from South Africa.
- Full-time position working UK business hours.
- Direct exposure to the founder and the opportunity to grow alongside an expanding recruitment business.
- Opportunity to develop your recruitment expertise and contribute to business growth.
🏆 Why This Opportunity?
You'll have the opportunity to:
- Work directly with the founder of a growing specialist recruitment business.
- Build relationships across the technology, engineering, product and design markets.
- Speak with a diverse range of professionals, from mid-level candidates to senior technology leaders.
- Develop your expertise in specialist recruitment and candidate engagement.
- Gain exposure to the commercial side of running and growing a recruitment business.
- Contribute ideas in an agile environment where your input can make a difference.
- Use AI-enabled recruitment tools to improve your workflow.
- Take on more responsibility as the business and its client base grow.
- Earn additional commission through successful placements.
📅 What Is the Process?
- Apply. Submit your application through the Scaled platform.
- Application Questions. Answer a few short questions about your recruitment experience and candidate engagement approach.
- Initial Interview. Discuss your background, communication style and experience building candidate relationships.
- Practical Assessment. Demonstrate how you'd approach a candidate conversation and manage a talent pool.
- Final Interview. Meet the founder and discuss the opportunity in more detail.
🔥 Ready to Build Something?
If you're a recruiter who genuinely enjoys speaking to people, building relationships and understanding what makes a great candidate — we'd love to hear from you.
If you have experience in technology or product recruitment, even better.
We're looking for someone who wants to build a strong candidate network, contribute to a growing business and develop their career alongside an ambitious founder.
