APPLY HERE The Vall d´Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) Seeks a “Cancer Genomics Bioinformatician” Reference: 2026-056-01 Application deadline: Until the position is filled Number of vacancies: 1 Job description: The newly established Cancer Genome Dynamics Group led by Dr Carolin Sauer is seeking a highly motivated and skilled bioinformatician to join our growing research team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in implementing robust bioinformatic pipelines, analysing complex and large-scale genomic datasets with a particular focus on cell-free DNA, and in contributing to the advancements of our translational research programs with direct application to clinically relevant questions. This role is ideal for an individual with a strong bioinformatics background, hands-on experience with complex biological datasets, and a collaborative mindset with the motivation to work in an international and interdisciplinary research environment. Main duties: Multi-modal data analysis : Analyse whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data (from both long- and short-read sequencing) of genomic tumour and cell-free DNA and contribute to the evaluation and development of novel computational methods. Pipeline development and management : Develop, optimise, implement and maintain scalable bioinformatic pipelines for processing and analysing complex genomic data. Data integration and visualisation : Integrate genomic data with other biological datasets and develop compelling visualisations to communicate complex findings. Collaboration and communication : Provide timely and expert bioinformatics support in a collaborative manner, present results at group meetings, and contribute to scientific publications. Documentation and reproducibility : Follow best practices for data and software management to ensure rigorous documentation, version control and reproducibility of all analyses, code and pipelines. Requirements: Mandatory: Degree (preferably MSc or PhD) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Biological Science or a closely related field. Knowledge of processing and analysing cancer genomics and liquid biopsy datasets. Proven experience in developing and running bioinformatics pipelines in high-performance computing (HPC) and Linux/Unix environments. Demonstrated hands-on experience with bioinformatic software for cancer or human genomics. Strong bash scripting and programming skills, preferably in Python and/or R. Experience with environment and workflow management systems (e.g., Conda and Nextflow). Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git). Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. Desirable : Familiarity with long-read sequencing technologies (ONT or PacBio) and data analysis. Experience and knowledge of statistical modelling or machine learning.
