Job Description

At Blue Cross NC, we recognize the dedication, discipline, and leadership that transitioning service members bring to the workforce. Through our DoW SkillBridge Program, we provide a unique opportunity for military personnel in their final months of service to gain hands-on experience in a civilian work environment while exploring meaningful career paths in the healthcare industry.

By joining Blue Cross NC’s SkillBridge Program, service members can deploy their leadership, problem-solving skills, and mission-driven mindset in a civilian setting. This internship provides a bridge between military service and a meaningful career in healthcare, allowing participants to continue their tradition of service—this time, by helping make healthcare better for all.

We are honored to support transitioning military professionals as they navigate this next chapter and invite you to explore how your skills can make a difference at Blue Cross NC.

**This program is open to only active military service members.**

  • Develop and execute strategic military and veteran-focused initiatives that advance Blue Cross NC's brand, business objectives, member outreach, retention efforts, and community impact. Strategies will include improving access to healthcare, behavioral health resources, benefits education, and social determinants of health for active-duty service members, veterans, and military families.
  • Collaborate with County Engagement teams and cross-functional business units to implement community-informed strategies that primarily support Healthy Blue, Blue Cross NC’s Medicaid plan.
  • Build and maintain relationships with military installations, Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs), Military Service Organizations (MSOs), Veteran Service Officers, healthcare providers, community-based organizations, and government agencies to expand Blue Cross NC's reach and impact.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for education and outreach initiatives focused on healthcare access, behavioral health, chronic disease prevention, food insecurity, housing stability, and other priority issues affecting military and veteran populations.
  • Lead and support military community events, Veteran Stand Downs, benefits education seminars, health screenings, wellness initiatives, and evidence-based training programs that connect individuals to healthcare resources and Blue Cross NC products and services.
  • Collaborate with Public Health, Faith-Based, Tribal and Regional Liaisons, and other business-facing divisions to ensure coordinated engagement strategies that maximize community impact and support organizational goals.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on military and veteran community needs, emerging healthcare trends, and barriers to care, providing recommendations to improve outreach, engagement, and member experience.
  • Lead, train and support County Engagement teammates and community partners, fostering a high-performing team committed to serving military-connected populations across North Carolina.
  • Communicate program activities, partnership outcomes, community insights, and measurable impacts through regular reporting, presentations, and internal communication channels.
  • Manage military engagement projects, programs, policies, and procedures, ensuring deliverables, strategic objectives, compliance requirements, and performance measures are successfully achieved.
  • Evaluate community needs and partnership opportunities to develop sustainable, long-term initiatives that strengthen trust within the military community while supporting Blue Cross NC's mission and business objectives.
