Overview

This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of a company office.

First Citizens Bank offers an exciting summer internship program that provides development opportunities and hands on work experience while creating a talent pipeline for the Bank. Our interns will apply classroom knowledge in a corporate environment while making a positive impact across the organization and the communities we serve. Come help First Citizens build for the future!

We are seeking a curious, analytical, and highly motivated Summer Intern to join our Card Product Management team, focused on the evolving intersection of commercial cards, B2B payments, fintech platforms, and business spend management.

The intern will work alongside product and strategy leaders to explore how businesses pay, manage spend, and interact with modern financial technology platforms. The role will provide hands-on exposure to the product management lifecycle, including market research, customer and competitive analysis, product strategy, business case development, and go-to-market planning.

The broader market is increasingly connecting commercial payment capabilities directly into the platforms businesses use.

What You’ll Work On

As a member of the team, you may:

  • Support card product strategy by researching customer needs, market trends, competitive offerings, and emerging technologies across commercial cards and B2B payments.
  • Explore B2B spend use cases, including procurement, accounts payable, expense management, virtual cards, embedded payments, and other business payment workflows.
  • Analyze fintech and platform trends to understand how software platforms are changing the way businesses access and use payment capabilities.
  • Develop competitive landscapes across banks, card networks, fintechs, payment providers, and spend-management platforms.
  • Help evaluate new product opportunities, translating customer problems and market insights into product concepts, hypotheses, requirements, and potential business cases.
  • Partner cross-functionally with colleagues across Product, Technology, Sales, Risk, Operations, Finance, and other functions to understand how payment products move from idea to execution.
  • Use data to develop insights on product performance, customer behavior, addressable spend, or market opportunities.
  • Contribute to product roadmaps and go-to-market thinking, including product positioning, target customer segments, value propositions, and commercialization strategies.
  • Develop an end-of-summer recommendation or product proposal addressing a meaningful opportunity within commercial cards, B2B payments, or fintech-enabled business spend.

What You’ll Learn

This internship is designed to provide practical exposure to:

  • Commercial card and payment product management
  • The B2B payments ecosystem
  • Fintech and embedded finance business models
  • Business spend and expense-management workflows
  • Digital platforms and APIs
  • Customer-led product discovery
  • Product economics and business-case development
  • Competitive and market analysis
  • Product commercialization and go-to-market strategy
  • Working across business and technology teams

Modern commercial payment platforms increasingly bring together payment products, fintech integrations, onboarding, transaction visibility, reporting, and payment-management capabilities, making this an especially rich environment for learning platform-oriented product management.
