Pay Grade: 29E Context of Job: Academic Coaching & Tutoring (ACT) provides tutoring and academic support services to the University of Delaware community. ACT’s mission is to empower students to develop the academic skills and strategies needed to achieve their goals and support their continued success. Under the general direction of the ACT Director, the Academic Success Coach I promotes a positive and successful learning experience to support student retention, academic achievement, and degree completion. The Academic Success Coach I provides holistic academic support through individualized meetings with undergraduate students, conducted both in person and remotely, to help students progress toward their academic, personal, and professional goals. The position also supports New Student Orientation (NSO) and related advising efforts, as needed. Major Responsibilities Provide high-touch, individualized support to an assigned student caseload through in-person and remote coaching sessions, helping students develop academic skills and strategies that promote success and retention. Develop and implement effective student-support strategies and proactive early-outreach plans. Participate in student outreach activities, including admission events, resource fairs, and other University programs. Provide academic success coaching in areas including time management, goal setting, study skills, and learning strategies, while offering encouragement and positive reinforcement. Assess individual student needs, make appropriate referrals, and assist students in navigating academic challenges and external commitments that may affect their success. Monitor students’ academic progress, maintain accurate student records, and prepare summary reports. Collaborate with academic administrators, faculty, advisors, and other campus partners to support student success and develop targeted intervention strategies for students identified as at risk. Assist with the development, planning, facilitation, and presentation of academic success workshops on topics such as time management, study skills, and test preparation. Collaborate with students’ assigned academic advisors and assist with advising activities to help students understand degree requirements, develop degree progression strategies, and establish plans for timely graduation. Provide advising support to designated colleges for new students, as needed. Assist with ACT tutoring program activities and responsibilities as assigned. Support New Student Orientation (NSO) efforts, including advisement, as needed. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, psychology, or a related discipline and three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working in a postsecondary setting preferred. Knowledge of student issues in higher education, including access, transition, retention, and academic success. Knowledge of study skills development and a broad range of learning strategies. Demonstrated ability to identify problems, analyze information, and develop and implement effective solutions while supporting a diverse student population with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds. Ability to take initiative, assume responsibility, and handle confidential information with discretion. Demonstrated enthusiasm for working with students individually and in group settings. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships within a diverse community. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and presentation software; experience with Qualtrics and student success tracking platforms preferred. Ability to interpret, apply, and adhere to policies and procedures. Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage frequent interruptions, and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a collaborative team environment.
