About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Access to HE Manager to lead the delivery, quality, and performance of our Access to Higher Education provision. This is an exciting opportunity for a curriculum leader with Access to HE experience who is passionate about supporting adult learners to achieve their goals and progress into higher education.


You will be responsible for ensuring high-quality programme delivery, maintaining compliance with awarding body requirements, and driving continuous improvement across the curriculum.


This is a remote-based role; however, you will be required to travel to our Head Office in Spennymoor (DL16) twice per month for meetings, collaboration, and key business activities. Additional travel may be required occasionally.


Key Responsibilities

Curriculum and Delivery Standards

  • Lead the development of a well-structured, coherent curriculum that meets learner needs and supports progression to Higher Education
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality delivery, assessment, and feedback across all provision
  • Ensure curriculum delivery meets awarding body standards and prepares learners effectively for progression


Leadership, Performance, and Accountability

  • Manage a team of tutors and support staff, setting clear expectations, performance standards, and accountability measures
  • Maintain a culture of continuous improvement and high performance
  • Lead on self-assessment and improvement planning, ensuring clear and measurable impact, with the support of the Head of Flexible Learning
  • Provide regular, data-driven reports to the Head of Adult Skills, identifying strengths, risks, and actions


Recruitment, Conversion, and Learner Journey

  • Work collaboratively with Client Services team to ensure a smooth learner journey from enquiry through to progression, ensuring effective and impartial advice and guidance
  • Support your tutors by closely monitoring enquiries, applications, and enrolment conversion rates, implementing strategies to improve performance
  • Support your tutors to ensure learners are enrolled on to programmes that meet their needs and support successful completion
  • Support your tutors with the UCAS application process, ensuring learners receive consistent guidance to achieve positive progression outcomes
  • Monitor and maintain tracking systems to monitor UCAS applications, offers, and acceptances, reporting on progression performance


Data, Monitoring, and Improvement

  • Maintain and manage systems to monitor key performance metrics, including:
  • Recruitment pipeline and conversion rates
  • Attendance, participation, and engagement
  • Retention and withdrawals
  • Achievement and timely completion
  • Progression to Higher Education
  • Conduct regular reviews with teams, using data to challenge underperformance and drive improvement
  • Ensure data is accurate, timely, and effectively used to inform decision-making and interventions
  • Take swift action to address performance gaps and improve learner outcomes


Learner Experience and Development

  • Promote high expectations for learner engagement, conduct, and attendance within a remote delivery model
  • Ensure learners receive high-quality careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG)
  • Embed English and maths, safeguarding, Prevent, British Values, and equality, diversity and inclusion within delivery
  • Monitor learner feedback and satisfaction, using insights to improve the learner experience


Collaboration and Compliance

  • Work closely with curriculum, quality, and support teams to ensure a consistent and joined-up approach
  • Ensure compliance with awarding body requirements and organisational policies, including data protection
  • Support continuous professional development, sharing good practice across the team


Essential Criteria

  • Experience in Access to HE provision
  • Proven leadership and management experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ teaching/training experience
  • Strong understanding of current inspection expectations and quality standards
  • Teaching qualification
  • Experience of monitoring and improving performance using data (including conversion and retention)
  • Strong IT and data management capability
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage workload, priorities, and deadlines


Contract

  • Permanent
  • 36 hours per week (Monday - Thursday 09:00 - 17:00, Friday 09:00 - 15:30)
  • £30,000-£35,000
  • 36 hour week for all full time employees! For most, this means a 15:30 finish on a Friday!
