IDA Mission

To advance infectious disease prevention and treatment through international collaboration, sustainable financing, and stronger global health systems.


Organisational Context

The Infectious Disease Alliance (IDA) is a growing international non-profit organization operating through a remote working model. IDA is seeking an Accountant to support the financial and accounting activities related to its Geneva operations, including the establishment and development of reliable accounting processes, financial documentation, and internal controls.


Reporting Lines

  • Reports to: IDA leadership / designated finance or administration lead.
  • Works closely with: HR, leadership, external accountants, auditors, banks, suppliers, and other relevant service providers.


Role

Accountant – Based in Geneva/Switzerland (Voluntary, approximately 15 hours per week/Remote work)

To maintain accurate accounting records, support day-to-day financial administration, and help establish practical accounting processes and internal controls for IDA's Geneva operations.


Respnsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records for Geneva operations.
  • Record and categorize income, expenditure, invoices, and financial transactions.
  • Process and track invoices, payments, reimbursements, and supporting documentation.
  • Perform regular bank and account reconciliations.
  • Maintain organized financial filing systems for invoices, receipts, contracts, and other records.
  • Support monthly and periodic financial reporting, including budget monitoring and expenditure tracking.
  • Coordinate financial administration related to suppliers, consultants, and service providers.
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, banks, and relevant financial providers as required.
  • Support year-end accounts, audit documentation, and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Help establish and improve accounting procedures, internal controls, and collaborative finance-related workflows.


Selection Criteria


Academic Qualifications

  • Education and/or practical experience in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Previous accounting or financial administration experience.
  • Experience in an NGO, association, non-profit, or international organization is advantageous but not must.
  • Knowledge of the Swiss/Geneva accounting environment is highly desirable.


Languages

  • Good working proficiency in English, with clear and effective communication in formal and informal professional settings.
  • Knowledge of the local language is an advantage.


Other True Eligibility Requirements

  • Availability to contribute approximately 15 hours per week/Remote.
  • Willingness to undertake a voluntary role supporting the Geneva operations.
  • Ability to work with financial information responsibly and confidentially.

Technical Capabilities

  • Accounting records maintenance and transaction categorization.
  • Invoice, payment, reimbursement, and supplier administration.
  • Bank and account reconciliations.
  • Financial reporting and budget monitoring.
  • Financial documentation, filing, and audit preparation.
  • Accounting procedures and internal controls.
  • Google Workspace, particularly Google Sheets and Google Drive.
  • Accounting software experience is an advantage.
  • Understanding of Swiss/Geneva accounting practices is desirable.
