About the Role
This position offers an exciting and challenging opportunity for ambitious and experienced accounting professionals looking to advance their careers in a nurturing and innovative environment. Responsibilities include overseeing accounting operations, performing operational accounting tasks, supporting procurement, and purchasing activities, as well as managing inventory functions.
The ideal candidate will display strong leadership abilities, have a solid technical accounting background, and show dedication to compliance with financial regulations. The successful applicant will ensure financial accuracy and play a vital role in promoting the overall financial health of HPA. The Accounting Manager reports to the Vice President and works closely with the CEO, external CPA, and fractional finance and accounting advisors. This role is expected to own execution of HPA's accounting function, collaborate effectively with specialized advisors, and translate financial guidance into consistent internal processes, controls, reporting, and follow-through.
How You’ll Contribute
- Lead Accounting Operations: Oversee daily accounting activities, financial reporting, compliance, and team accountability while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and integrity.
- Own the Financial Close: Manage the month-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, revenue recognition, payroll accounting, and financial statement preparation.
- Strengthen Financial Operations: Maintain effective accounts payable, cash management, purchasing, inventory, fixed asset, and internal control processes.
- Partner on Planning & Strategy: Collaborate with executive leadership and financial advisors on budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, financial analysis, and performance tracking.
- Build Scalable Systems: Improve accounting policies, workflows, documentation, technology, and automation to support HPA’s continued growth and operational efficiency.
- Partner Across HPA: Work cross-functionally with department leaders to strengthen financial understanding, budget accountability, and adherence to established financial processes.

What You'll Bring
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or at least 5 years of accounting experience, including a minimum of 2 years in a managerial position.
- Previous experience in the sports industry is a plus.
- Regulatory & Technical Accounting Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of accounting and financial principles, including regulations and compliance standards. Familiarity with local, state and federal payroll and bookkeeping regulations. Proficient in payroll processing and tax regulations, with a comprehensive understanding of inventory and procurement accounting.
- Problem-Solving: Expertise in identifying solutions for complex financial, procurement, and inventory challenges.
- Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy in financial reporting, inventory management, and analysis.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to juggle multiple tasks while maintaining an orderly workflow.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively relay financial, procurement, and inventory information.
- Technology: Proficient with cloud-based accounting systems, Microsoft 365, QuickBooks and financial reporting tools. Comfortable learning and implementing automation, AI-enabled tools, system integrations, and emerging technologies that improve accounting efficiency and scalability.
- Efficiency: Skill in optimizing processes to ensure timely task completion.
- Negotiation: Proficient in negotiating with vendors and managing relationships effectively.
- Accuracy: Commitment to precision in financial transactions, reporting, and inventory data.
