About the company

We are a fast-growing container solutions company based in Lathrop, California, specializing in storage, logistics, and modular container services. Our mission is to deliver efficient, scalable, and sustainable solutions to businesses across multiple industries.

Position overview

We are seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager with a strong accounting foundation to own balance sheet reconciliations, lead month-end close, and prepare audit support. You will personally prepare and review accounting workpapers, investigate differences, and drive issues to a documented resolution while developing the accounting team. This role requires sound U.S. GAAP judgment, strong NetSuite skills, and clear communication with finance leadership, operations, and external auditors.

Key responsibilities:

Balance sheet reconciliations and issue resolution

  • Own monthly reconciliations of cash, receivables, inventory and work in progress, rental fleet and fixed assets, prepaids, payables, accruals, debt, and clearing accounts.
  • Ensure reconciliations tie to the general ledger and supporting records, include evidence and explanations, and receive documented preparation and independent review.
  • Investigate aged differences, duplicate or missing transactions, incorrect coding, and unmatched bank activity. Prepare supported correcting entries for approval and track open items by owner and resolution date.

Month end close and financial reporting

  • Lead and actively execute monthly, quarterly, and annual close using a calendar with assigned responsibilities, deadlines, and review controls.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepaids, depreciation, account rollforwards, and cutoff adjustments. Maintain clear calculations and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare and review financial statements under U.S. GAAP, reconcile subledgers to the general ledger, and explain significant monthly and year-over-year movements.

Audit preparation and technical accounting

  • Own the audit prepared-by-client (PBC) request tracker and prepare schedules that reconcile to the trial balance, transaction support, rollforwards, and adjustment bridges.
  • Respond to auditor inquiries with clear written explanations and consistent supporting schedules. Resolve follow-up requests with internal stakeholders and external auditors.
  • Document accounting conclusions for unusual transactions and estimates, including revenue recognition, receivable collectibility, inventory valuation, asset movements, and accruals.

Operational accounting and team leadership

  • Manage general ledger accounting and oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and fixed assets. Coach staff and review their work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Oversee accounting for container sales, rentals, modifications, inventory costing, overhead absorption, depreciation, disposals, and transfers between inventory and the rental fleet.
  • Partner with operations, collections, and legal to obtain evidence supporting asset status, receivable collectibility, inventory adjustments, and accruals.
  • Maintain accounting policies, approval controls, and segregation of duties. Support compliance reporting, cash and working capital analysis, and budgeting and forecasting.

Borrowing base reporting and sales tax

  • Prepare and review borrowing base certificates (BBCs) and supporting receivable, inventory, collection, and reserve schedules. Reconcile submissions to NetSuite and apply lender-defined eligibility criteria and reporting deadlines.
  • Prepare and reconcile sales and use tax schedules, coordinate or complete filings and payments through approved processes, and maintain exemption certificates and filing support. Investigate tax coding differences and work with advisors on unfamiliar requirements.

NetSuite and process improvement

  • Use NetSuite transaction records, GL impact, saved searches, and financial reports to investigate balances and reconcile accounting records.
  • Standardize reconciliation workpapers and audit files; improve workflows and automation while preserving supporting evidence and review controls.
  • Partner with system administrators and implementation specialists on configurations, integrations, and data integrity.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including team leadership and hands-on ownership of close and reconciliations.
  • Strong U.S. GAAP knowledge and financial statement preparation and review experience with U.S.-based companies.
  • Experience preparing audit PBC schedules, answering auditor inquiries, and resolving historical accounting differences with supported entries.
  • Proven hands-on NetSuite experience in journal entries, transaction research, GL analysis, saved searches, reporting, and subledger reconciliation.
  • Working knowledge and practical exposure to BBC reporting, lender eligibility calculations, and supporting collateral schedules; and sales and use tax preparation, reconciliation, and filing.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and reconciliation of large transaction datasets.
  • Organised, attention to detail, clear communication, and reliable delivery against deadlines.
  • Available to work PST schedule Mon - Fri 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Working experience as independent contractor/freelancer
