Job Overview
The Accounting Operations Support Specialist supports the day-to-day accounting operations of the Credit Union by processing financial transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, and supporting operational accounting activities. This role partners with internal teams to ensure transactions are processed accurately, financial information is recorded appropriately, and accounting processes support efficient day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities

- Prepares and records accounting entries to support member transactions, wire activity, and other operational accounting functions
- Processes and reconciles wire transactions related to loan disbursements
- Processes and maintains documentation for corporate check, money order, and other payment-related activities
- Ensures accurate documentation supporting accounting transactions and operational requirements
- Reconciles assigned general ledger, in-house, and balance sheet accounts and researches discrepancies as needed
- Reconciles cash settlements from third-party processors to ensure amounts settled to the general ledger align with transactions posted to member accounts
- Supports accounting operations, including ACH processing, check processing, and accounts payable activities as needed
- Participates in special projects, process improvements, and other accounting initiatives as assigned
- Processes Team Member, board, and other reimbursement entries
Minimum Required Qualifications
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ year of experience supporting accounting operations, bookkeeping, financial recordkeeping, reconciliations, transaction processing, and/or relevant transferable experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or specialized training in accounting, business, or related field
- 2+ years of experience supporting accounting operations, reconciliations, financial reporting, and transaction processing
- Experience working in a credit union, banking, financial services, or other highly regulated environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
A representation of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles, financial transactions, reconciliations, and general ledger processes
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies, and operational standards related to financial transactions and recordkeeping
- Skilled in Microsoft Office applications and accounting systems used to support financial operations
- Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail while managing routine financial and transactional activities
- Ability to evaluate accounting discrepancies, determine appropriate actions, and escalate concerns when necessary
- Ability to organize work, manage multiple priorities, and meet established deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively through verbal, written, and electronic communication
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion
- Ability to identify operational issues and recommend process improvements that support efficient accounting operations
