Our Roots
The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the Numu (Northern Paiute), Newe (Western Shoshone), and Washeshu (Washoe). These communities lived in harmony with the land for generations before European contact, following seasonal cycles and forming small, efficient social groups for survival.
Each group's name means "The People" in their own language, reflecting their deep cultural identity and connection to the Earth. They maintained strong traditions, respected neighboring tribes, and engaged in trade throughout the region.
Today, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony continues to honor these traditions while supporting the well-being, culture, and future of its tribal community.
The Position
As an Accounting Technician / Payroll, you'll support accurate, on-time financial processing for RSIC's Finance Department while rotating across payroll and other accounting functions as proficiency is achieved. This role exists to keep payments, records, and reporting dependable and compliant.
Key responsibilities include processing payroll and related tax/benefit reconciliations; handling accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions; preparing and posting routine journal entries; maintaining organized, confidential files; assisting with grant/contract record support; and providing responsive customer service to RSIC employees, programs, and the public.
Required qualifications/skills:
- High school diploma or GED with formal bookkeeping/accounting training
- 1+ year experience in an accounting department (or equivalent combination)
- Working knowledge of bookkeeping practices, filing systems, and account maintenance
- Ability to compile information, meet deadlines, and use computerized systems
- Strong communication and ability to follow written and verbal instructions
If you're ready to bring accuracy and service to a mission-driven team, apply today.
A Typical Day
Your day is structured and deadline-aware in a fully remote routine, with steady communication through email, chat, and scheduled check-ins. You'll start by reviewing the day's priorities-often tied to a pay period calendar or month-end timing-then move through focused blocks of work that require careful attention to detail.
You'll spend time validating information before it moves forward, cross-checking totals, and documenting what was completed so others can follow the trail. As you build proficiency, your focus shifts between assigned functions, giving you variety while keeping expectations clear. Throughout the day, you'll respond to questions from employees or internal partners, and you'll close out by organizing digital records so they remain complete, secure, and easy to retrieve when needed.

- Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage
- 401(k) retirement plan
