About the Actuarial Coordinator Internship Position:

The Actuarial Intern provides actuarial support to the Corporate Actuarial Department, assisting with savings monitoring, analysis and calculations, monitoring data outcomes, monthly data analysis, Accounts Payable processes, fee and savings reconciliations, and incurred but not reported (IBNR) calculations. Working approximately 25 to 28 hours per week, this role supports the accuracy and efficiency of departmental operations while developing practical actuarial knowledge and professional experience. Ideal for a college student pursuing an Actuarial degree or an individual transitioning back into the workforce, the Actuarial Intern works collaboratively with team members and reports to Avalon’s Senior Vice President, Actuarial.

This position is eligible for remote work, but quarterly travel will be required to Avalon's corporate office located in Tampa, Florida.

Actuarial Coordinator Internship – Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Tracks savings monthly for Health Plans.
  • Reviews claims data and performs analyses on per member per month (PMPM) spend and savings.
  • Responds to actuarial inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepares incurred but not reported (IBNR) data and communicates impact to revenue.
  • Assists with preparing Health Plan data reconciliations and researches outstanding items as needed.
  • Assists with financial reporting requests by gathering supporting documentation.
  • Maintains organized actuarial records and files in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Compiles, reviews, and enters actuarial data with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Provides general administrative support to the Actuarial Department.
  • Collaborates with team members to support daily actuarial operations and other projects as assigned.

Actuarial Coordinator Internship – Minimum Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate data with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

Actuarial Coordinator Internship – Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Actuarial Science or other related field.
  • Passed a minimum of one (1) Actuarial Exam.
  • Currently on track to take additional Actuarial Exams while pursuing an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation.
