The Role
As the Advisor, Finance Management, you’ll be integral to our work in helping vulnerable children achieve a brighter future. You will be responsible for managing the end-to-end GIK accounting process, providing budget holder financial support, award management, subaward management, budgeting, financial analysis, accounting, and expense allocation guidance for a specified portfolio. You will serve as the financial point of contact for all financial management within your portfolio and provide additional support in backstopping the other Advisors and Senior Director with analysis and allocations.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Gifts-in-Kind Accounting & Documentation (45%)
- Review GIK documents for accuracy and completeness (e.g., bills of lading, donation letters, fair market value support, receiving confirmations), resolving discrepancies with program, logistics, and finance stakeholders.
- Compile audit ready supporting packages; maintain organized, accessible electronic files in shared repositories consistent with retention policies.
- Enter GIK revenue, inventory and expense transactions into BBEC and Agresso, ensuring accurate inventory balances, correct chart of accounts, projects/awards, and timing; coordinate with SCUS Accounting to meet monthly close timelines.
- Support year-end processing for GIK transactions and rollforward reconciliation, which may include working additional hours to meet accounting deadlines.
- Regularly interact with TrackVia to: export shipment/receipt records; enter and track item‑level data; upload supporting documents; and run or customize operational and reconciliation reports.
- Monitor end‑to‑end GIK flow (donor pledge → receipt → valuation → expense), recommend process improvements to reduce cycle time from goods receipt to expense (target ≤60 days from receipt to booking).
- Provide support to Emergencies team to track all emergency shipments both direct and to/from the hub. Consulting to ensure that all inventory, revenue and expenses are tracked and align with TrackVia.
Financial Budgeting and Analysis (25%)
- Assist Budget Holder(s) on the annual planning and budgeting process for cost center budgets within your portfolio.
- Work closely with the Humanitarian Response team to assist in budget preparation for responses, provide financial and strategic guidance, and identify and address financial risks.
- Conduct regular analysis of financial data, and prepare monthly financial performance reports including, but not limited to, revenue and expense forecasting, budget vs. actual, projections and trends.
- Conduct budget reviews to ensure efficient use of resources and advise budget holders on maximizing funds.
- Prepare ad hoc analysis reports as requested.
- Ensure cost models and equivalencies are up to date for portfolio.
- Ensure proper invoicing and of transfer of funds for SCI and Member2Member funding.
- Conduct monthly analysis and reconciliation of cash accounts to ensure accurate information is communicated to budget holders.
Award Management (15%)
- Work with Senior Director to proactively identify funding gaps and provide strategic guidance to fundraising teams to ensure our funding is aligned with our strategy.
- Prepare and review donor budget proposals within your portfolio.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with organizational policies, federal regulation, and established donor requirements.
- Prepare donor financial reports for awards within your portfolio and provide ad hoc reporting as requested.
- Obtain approvals for awards that fall outside internal policies.
- Ensure donor reports are completed timely and accurately, ensure all reports and related backup are stored in AMS.
- Close award records in a timely manner by ensuring all documentation is in AMS and funds have been received.
Subaward Management (10%)
- Serve as business partner for subaward recipients and program staff by providing strategic input, being a sounding board for SCUS compliance with policies and processes.
- Maintain comprehensive subaward tracking for your portfolio to support program team in decision making for subaward partners.
- Provide financial guidance and trainings to internal and external stakeholders on best practices for managing Save the Children funding.
- Review and approve partner financial reports and process payments.
- Conduct risk assessments, pre-award surveys, and financial monitoring for subaward partnerships to ensure compliance with SCUS policies and donor requirements.
- Follow the subaward management manual throughout the entire subaward process from start to close out.
- Manage International Member2Member awards as needed.
Respond to US Emergencies (5%)
- Deploy, either remotely or in-person, to support designated Save the Children US Emergency responses in a financial or operational capacity or serve as a finance and/or operations backstop as required.
- Based on our business needs during a response, U.S. Emergencies employees are expected to deploy for 3 to 6 weeks at a time.
- Train program staff in conducting finance and operational processes and provide technical assistance throughout the response.
- When necessary and appropriate, provide support in the GIK Warehouse for sorting and inventorying Emergency donations.
Required qualifications for the role
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience
- Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with Microsoft Excel and demonstrated ability to apply creative ideas for data compilations.
- Demonstrated ability to support multiple stakeholders by providing sound financial data and guidance
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff at various levels, and to demonstrate the importance of upholding financial policies and procedures
- Proven in-depth understanding and problem-solving approach to financial management as it relates to complex, multifunctional budgets.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
- Ability to prioritize, work well under pressure and capably handle/juggle multiple tasks within tight deadlines
- Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
Preferred qualifications for the role
- Experience working in complex Inventory Management Softwares, specifically TrackVia is a plus
- Experience managing complex financial portfolios and providing time-sensitive ad-hoc reporting
- Experience with accounting and grants management softwares, specifically Salesforce, AMS, or Agresso is a plus
Compensation
Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:
- Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $74,800 - $83,600 base salary
The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record. Actual base salary may vary based on, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here).
