Job Description:
You will work with
You will join AI Enablement & Programme Management team, a new central function that connects bp's AI strategy with delivery. The team creates visibility, consistent execution, strategic partner management and organisation-wide readiness, while delivery and specialist accountabilities remain with the relevant teams. You will lead the AI Engagement, Community & Training team and work closely with Communications, Training, AI Governance, Digital Security, Workplace and Resilience, business-facing Digital VPs, AI delivery teams and communities across bp. The team is small, collaborative and outcomes-focused, with a strong emphasis on partnership, practical adoption and trusted guidance.
Let me tell you about the role
The AI Engagement, Community and Training Lead will build confidence, understanding, fluency and sustained adoption of AI across bp. You will develop the AI communications, learning, community and engagement strategies and translate them into coordinated roadmaps and measurable activity. The role combines organisational change leadership, essential communications, learning strategy, community building and senior partner engagement. You will lead through partnership and influence, orchestrating activity across specialist teams while maintaining clear boundaries: the role does not set AI strategy, own broad internal communications, deliver training directly or make AI tool governance decisions.
What you will deliver
AI adoption and change strategy: Develop an integrated approach that builds workforce confidence, understanding, fluency and sustained adoption of AI. Assess partner needs and adoption barriers, define priority interventions and connect engagement, communications, learning and community activity to business outcomes.
Strategic communications: Develop and complete the AI communications strategy and roadmap. Translate complex AI strategy, delivery and governance topics into clear, consistent and practical messages, working with Communications teams that retain ownership of broad internal communications delivery.
Learning strategy: Assess the existing AI learning landscape, identify role-based and enterprise gaps, and establish a targeted AI training strategy and roadmap. Partner with Training teams that retain ownership of learning design and delivery, ensuring priorities are grounded in day-to-day work.
Community leadership: Activate, grow and sustain the AI Champion community and AI Community of Practice. Establish clear purpose, operating rhythms, content and feedback mechanisms that help communities share learning, amplify trusted guidance and accelerate adoption.
Senior stakeholder engagement: Build active, trusted relationships with business-facing Digital VPs and other senior partners. Use these relationships to understand business needs, align priorities, sponsor adoption and strengthen the link between central AI activity and business delivery.
Content and knowledge management: Oversee the consolidated AI Hub and the curation of trusted, accessible AI guidance and information. Establish content ownership, quality and lifecycle practices so people can easily find current, practical information.
Listening, insight and measurement: Establish feedback loops, confidence measures, surveys and community listening. Use qualitative and quantitative insight to identify needs, shape priorities, assess effectiveness and continuously improve interventions.
Cross-functional orchestration: Coordinate Communications, Training, AI Governance, Digital Security, Workplace and Resilience, delivery teams and other partners around shared roadmaps and deliverables. Clarify roles and hand-offs, manage dependencies and maintain momentum without duplicating specialist accountabilities.
Delivery and team leadership: Translate strategy into coordinated plans, achievements and outcomes. Lead, coach and develop a small team focused on communications, learning and community building, creating a collaborative, inclusive and delivery-oriented culture.
What you will need to be successful (experience and qualifications)
- Proven experience leading organisational change, engagement or adoption activity across complex, global or matrixed organisations.
- Strong strategic communications capability, including the ability to create clear narratives, roadmaps and multi-channel engagement approaches for complex topics.
- Experience developing learning or capability strategies, assessing needs and gaps, and partnering with specialist learning teams to deliver outcomes.
- Demonstrated success in building and sustaining communities, networks or champion programmes that influence behaviour and adoption.
- Excellent senior partner engagement and executive relationship management skills, with the confidence to advise, influence and challenge constructively.
- Strong cross-functional orchestration and project leadership, with the ability to align multiple teams around shared priorities, roles and deliverables.
- Ability to use feedback, surveys, community insight and performance measures to shape priorities and demonstrate impact.
- Strong written and verbal communication, content judgement and the ability to simplify AI concepts into practical, trusted guidance.
- People leadership experience, including coaching and developing team members while delivering through a broader network of partners.
At this level, the AI Engagement, Community and Training Lead has a comprehensive understanding of organisational change and takes leadership responsibility for a broad, interconnected adoption agenda. They shape strategies and roadmaps, lead execution across communications, learning, communities and senior engagement, and use evidence to refine priorities and drive measurable outcomes. They collaborate closely with senior leaders and specialist functions, navigating ambiguity and organisational boundaries through influence rather than direct control. They lead and mentor team members, strengthen capability across the wider network and create the conditions for sustained AI confidence, fluency and adoption across bp.
