We are looking for an AI Engineer to strengthen our Data & Analytics crew. 💡 If you enjoy building AI applications that solve real problems and work reliably in production, we would like to hear from you.

What is the role about?

As an AI Engineer at Knowit, you will design and build AI applications for our clients, taking solutions from an initial idea through development to production. Your work will focus on the application layer: building LLM-powered services, RAG solutions and AI agents, integrating models with existing systems, and making sure the complete solution works in everyday use.

Your role will be hands-on and client-facing. Together with our clients and colleagues, you will turn business needs into concrete use cases, define what success looks like, and choose an approach that fits the problem. This also means recognising when AI adds value and when another solution would work better.

Depending on the project, your work could include:

  • Building GenAI applications that use retrieval, structured outputs or multimodal capabilities.

  • Developing Python backends, APIs and integrations that connect AI applications with enterprise systems and processes.

  • Building agents and AI workflows that use tools, retrieve information and perform tasks within clearly defined boundaries.

  • Connecting LLMs with documents, databases and other enterprise data, while respecting user identities and access permissions.

  • Taking solutions into production and improving their quality, reliability, response times and cost efficiency through evaluation, monitoring and continuous development.

Security and responsible AI will be part of your everyday engineering work, from protecting enterprise data to handling unreliable outputs and risks such as prompt injection.

You will also have opportunities to share your expertise, develop our AI offering and support pre-sales together with your colleagues.

What do we expect from you?

We are looking for a developer with strong software engineering skills and practical experience building GenAI applications. You take ownership of your work, enjoy solving problems with others, and care about how your solutions perform after deployment.

The most important things you bring are:

  • Practical experience in LLM and GenAI application development. You have built working applications using techniques such as RAG, embeddings and structured outputs. We particularly value experience taking these solutions into production.

  • Strong Python and software engineering skills. You can build maintainable backends, APIs and integrations, and are comfortable with testing, version control and good development practices.

  • Experience with agents and AI workflows. You understand tool and function calling and how to orchestrate AI workflows that interact with business systems. Experience with frameworks such as LangGraph or Semantic Kernel is useful, but we do not require a specific framework.

  • The ability to work with enterprise data. You understand retrieval and vector search, can integrate different data sources, and know how to account for access permissions. You are comfortable with SQL and the basics of data processing and pipelines.

  • An understanding of what production AI requires. You can evaluate application quality, monitor behaviour and implement guardrails. You understand how deployment practices, latency, costs, security and privacy affect the overall solution.

  • Experience building cloud solutions. Azure experience is a strong advantage, particularly with Azure OpenAI and Azure AI Foundry. A strong background in AWS or GCP is also welcome.

  • Experience with or interest in AI-assisted coding. You are keen to use AI coding tools to support development, testing and documentation, and apply sound engineering judgment to review and validate generated code.

Alongside your technical skills, you can clarify requirements, discuss business goals and explain technical choices to different audiences. You are comfortable working directly with clients, facilitating discussions or workshops, and helping them turn an open-ended AI ambition into a practical solution with measurable value.

You communicate clearly in Finnish and/or English and enjoy continuously developing your expertise.

We also appreciate experience with:

  • Microsoft Fabric, Databricks or similar data platforms.

  • Full-stack development, especially TypeScript and React.

  • Machine learning, data science or statistics.

  • Consulting, pre-sales, project management or relevant client industry (i.e. manufacturing, banking and finance, gaming).

You do not need to bring every additional skill listed above. Strong AI application development and software engineering skills are the foundation of this role.

What do we offer you?

At Knowit, we value broad expertise as well as the willingness to explore and master new areas. We take pride in our hands-on way of working and our deep technical expertise.

And because we don't want this to be just a one-sided wish list, we want you to have the opportunity to shape your role as an expert and take ownership of your professional development, with our support. Everyone is welcome to be their whole self at Knowit, and we consider a relaxed yet professional working community valuable in its own right.

Here is what we offer:

  • A fixed monthly salary of 5800 – 6500€, depending on your skills, experience and capabilities.

  • A team and community where it is easy to grow and get support when you need it. Our people are at different stages of their careers, and we offer opportunities that challenge and develop both recent graduates and more experienced professionals.

  • Our People Lead model, which has received a lot of positive feedback internally. We believe that a manager's most important responsibility is to ensure that you, as an expert, have the best possible conditions to succeed in your work and develop professionally.

  • Time and resources to develop your expertise during working hours, including training, certifications and guild activities. We want to invest in your professional development.

  • Opportunities for internal mobility. Your work can make an impact across several industries, and working with different customers gives you genuine opportunities to learn something new.

  • A technology-independent environment. We work with modern technologies, tools and best practices, and have strong technology partnerships with major players in the industry. At the same time, we remain curious, ready to learn new things and willing to challenge the status quo.

  • Flexible remote and hybrid working arrangements that adapt to different life situations.

  • An excellent work-life balance. We work on large and meaningful projects in sustainable digitalization, but we also recognize that everyone is a whole person and that there is more to everyday life than work.

  • A comprehensive range of employee benefits, including lunch, commuting and sports/culture benefits, extensive occupational healthcare, accident insurance, work equipment of your choice, recruitment and sales lead bonuses, and the possibility of temporarily working remotely from abroad.
