**Job Summary**

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build and scale a next-generation AI platform supporting a major HHS initiative. This role is ideal for an engineer who has successfully built and operated production AI applications and can own both the backend infrastructure and the agentic AI systems running on top of it.

**What You'll Do**

- Design, build, and support cloud-native applications and services in Microsoft Azure<br/>- Develop and operate AI-powered tools, multi-agent workflows, and intelligent automation solutions<br/>- Build scalable APIs, data pipelines, retrieval systems, and backend services<br/>- Implement and optimize RAG architectures, semantic search, and knowledge retrieval capabilities<br/>- Integrate and orchestrate leading LLMs across multiple AI providers<br/>- Develop agent-to-agent communication, tool-calling, and AI workflow orchestration capabilities<br/>- Own CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, monitoring, logging, observability, and production reliability<br/>- Collaborate closely with product, design, and mission stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions<br/>- Mentor team members and contribute to engineering best practices

**Required Qualifications**

- 7+ years of software engineering experience building and supporting production systems<br/>- Strong Python development experience<br/>- Hands-on experience building LLM-powered applications in production<br/>- Experience with agentic AI systems, AI orchestration frameworks, tool calling, and multi-step workflows<br/>- Experience implementing RAG pipelines, vector databases, embeddings, and semantic search<br/>- Experience integrating AI models from providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or similar<br/>- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services, including serverless and container-based architectures<br/>- Experience with APIs, distributed systems, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud-native development<br/>- Strong understanding of authentication, security, and enterprise-grade application architecture<br/>- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills<br/>- Ability to obtain an HHS Public Trust prior to starting

**Preferred Qualifications**

- Experience with multi-agent systems and agent-to-agent communication patterns<br/>- Experience evaluating, monitoring, and optimizing AI application performance<br/>- Understanding of token optimization, model routing, and AI cost management<br/>- Experience supporting federal, healthcare, or other regulated environments<br/>- Experience in startup or high-growth product teams

Pay: $100.00 - $130.00 per hour
