JOB BRIEF (PURPOSE)

The AML Detection Quality Control (AMLD QC) Manager is responsible for leading the quality control program supporting AML Detection within Financial Crimes Risk Management (FCRM). This role ensures AML alert reviews are evaluated consistently and independently for compliance with internal procedures, regulatory expectations, risk-based decisioning standards, and quality requirements.

The AMLD QC Manager oversees a team of Quality Control Analysts responsible for reviewing AML Detection alert dispositions, identifying quality trends, providing feedback to management, and promoting consistent application of AML monitoring procedures. The manager serves as an independent control function and key partner to AML Detection leadership, Compliance, Training, Quality Assurance, and other stakeholders to strengthen control effectiveness and improve operational performance. This role is responsible for employee development, production management, quality reporting, procedure ownership, process improvements, audit support, and escalation management.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of AML Detection Quality Control Analysts, including performance management, employee engagement, cross-training, and career development.
  • Manage daily AMLD QC operations to ensure alert disposition reviews are completed timely, consistently, and in accordance with established procedures, quality standards, and sampling methodology.
  • Oversee review quality, scorecard administration, feedback, and validation of analytical accuracy, documentation quality, procedural adherence, and escalation decisions.
  • Identify quality trends, recurring deficiencies, systemic issues, and emerging risks; develop action plans and escalate significant concerns to leadership as appropriate.
  • Serve as an independent control partner to AML Detection leadership, Risk, Compliance, Training, Quality Assurance, and other stakeholders to support consistent quality expectations and issue resolution.
  • Develop and communicate quality reporting, scorecards, dashboards, trend analysis, staffing capacity insights, and executive-level updates to inform leadership decisions.
  • Lead or support process improvements, procedure updates, technology changes, automation efforts, and change management activities that strengthen AMLD QC effectiveness.
  • Support audits, compliance reviews, regulatory examinations, control documentation, issue remediation, and management responses related to AMLD QC activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in AML (Detections or Investigations)
  • Two or more years of leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), suspicious activity detection, transaction monitoring, and financial crimes risk management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders across multiple departments.
  • Experience interpreting policies, procedures, and regulatory expectations.
  • Proficiency with reporting tools, Microsoft Office applications, and case management systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience managing or supporting a QC or QA function
  • Experience working within Financial Crimes Risk Management or similar environment
  • Relevant Certifications (i.e. Certified Anti Money Laundering Specialist - CAMS certification or CFCS – Certified Financial Crimes Investigator)

POSTING LOCATION

  • Hybrid 3 days - Buffalo or Cleveland area

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $96,000.00 - $181,000.00 annually. Placement within the pay range may differ based upon various factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and geographic location. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for incentive compensation which may include production, commission, and/or discretionary incentives.
