Project Description

Join Hiredbuddy as an Entry-Level Android Developer and build the future of mobile experiences from anywhere in the US. You'll collaborate with a cross-functional team to create, iterate, and refine native Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. Ideal for motivated self-starters with foundational expertise in Android frameworks and a passion for clean, user-centric design.

Full Description

Role Overview

At Hiredbuddy, we're on a mission to redefine how people connect with professional opportunities. As an Android Developer, you'll be part of a agile, distributed team that delivers high-quality mobile solutions. This role is perfect for someone ready to launch their career in mobile development, working on real-world projects that impact users directly. You'll have the chance to learn from seasoned engineers, practice collaborative coding, and contribute to every stage of the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain features for our Android applications using Kotlin and Android Studio.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to define and ship new functionality.
  • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code while following modern Android best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and continuously improve our codebase.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues reported by users, including beta and production releases.
  • Contribute to the implementation of architecture patterns such as MVVM or MVI.
  • Use Jetpack Compose to build responsive UI components and ensure the apps adhere to Material Design guidelines.
  • Work with RESTful APIs and integrate third-party libraries to enhance functionality.
  • Write unit tests and UI tests to ensure the robustness of the application.
  • Collaborate in an agile environment, attending stand-ups, retros, and sprint planning.
  • Document and share knowledge to support peer learning.

Technical Environment

Our tech stack is continuously evolving, but here’s what we currently emphasize:

  • Language: Kotlin (primary), with some legacy Java.
  • UI: Jetpack Compose is our primary tool for building UI, but you'll also deal with XML layouts on maintenance projects.
  • Architecture: MVVM with a single-activity approach, using ViewModel and LiveData/Flow.
  • Dependency Injection: Hilt.
  • Networking: Retrofit and OkHttp.
  • Database: Room.
  • Version Control: Git and GitHub, with a strong emphasis on pull-request workflows.
  • Testing: JUnit, Espresso, and Mockito.

We expect you to come in with a passion for to explore, not immediately profess, but you'll get plenty of support to ramp up.

Learning & Growth

We believe in continuous development. Your personal roadmap will include:

  • Access to online courses and conference talks.
  • Monthly 1:1s with our engineering lead to plan your career path.
  • Pair programming and design review sessions.
  • Annual budget for work-related books and certifications.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and learning journeys. If you don't meet every technical requirement on paper but you have a fire to learn, we encourage you to apply.
