Android Developer – Jetpack Compose & UI Modernization

Location: Oulu preferred or Helsinki, Finland (Hybrid – 50% Remote / 2–3 Days On-site)

Contract Duration: 08 Oct 2026 – 31 Mar 2027 (6 Months, Freelance B2B, extension potential)

Workload: Full-Time (37.5 hrs/week)

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Android Developer for a 6-month contract engagement in Finland. Joining a cross-functional mobile engineering team, you will drive the UI modernization of native Android applications—migrating legacy View-based implementations to Jetpack Compose while establishing maintainable and automated testing frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement high-quality native Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Lead the modernization of existing applications by refactoring legacy View/XML-based UI components to align with design system libraries.
• Build and maintain automated UI tests using Espresso alongside comprehensive unit tests.
• Optimize application performance, stability, and user experience across diverse mobile setups.
• Collaborate with designers, QA engineers, backend developers, and software architects.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Core Requirements:

• Android Engineering: Proven experience as a Senior Android Developer delivering native applications.
• Tech Stack: Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Java, Gradle, and Git.
• UI Modernization: Demonstrated experience migrating legacy XML/View UIs to Jetpack Compose.
• Testing: Hands-on experience with unit testing and automated UI testing using Espresso.
• Languages: Professional fluency in English (spoken and written).

Desirable Experience:

• Hands-on familiarity with Material Design principles.
• Previous mobile development experience within large-scale financial, enterprise, or customer-facing applications.
