Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Animal Care Manager, performs duties related to animal care, such as administering medications, observing and monitoring behavior, and verifying feeding. Major Duties and Responsibilities: - Provide routine care for a variety of animals, including feeding, watering, cleaning, and monitoring health and behavior. - Conduct regular health checks, report any signs of illness or distress to the veterinary group, and administer treatments as directed. - Ensure that animal housing and work areas are clean, organized, and compliant with safety and regulatory standards. - Maintain accurate and detailed records of animal care, treatments, and any observations of note. - Ensure the work is completed and course-corrected in case of absenteeism. - Respond to any emergencies or urgent situations that arise during the weekend, including coordinating with veterinary staff or the on-call delegate as needed. - Report any issues or concerns to the Animal Facility Manager and provide updates on the status of animals and facility conditions. - Adhere to all institutional, local, and federal regulations regarding animal care and use, including protocols for animal welfare. Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities: Requirements: -Language Proficiency: Must have knowledge of both French and English. McGill University operates in English, and the role requires proficiency in English for both verbal and written communication. English proficiency is assessed at level 4, and French at level 3, on a scale of 0-4. -Institutional Knowledge: Familiarity with McGill University policies, the Facility Animal Care Committee (FACC), and Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) guidelines is required. -Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of business and industry-specific terminology to accurately document and convey meeting content. - Software Skills: Proficiency in relevant software tools, particularly Microsoft Word and Outlook. Soft Skills: - Proactive, with the ability to anticipate problems and take initiative. - Comfortable with conflict resolution and making decisions. - Demonstrated excellence in communication and interpersonal skills. - Proven organizational and leadership capabilities. - Ability to build sustainable relationships and trust with employees and clients through open, interactive communication. Additional: - Knowledge of safety standards and procedures relevant to the industry and work environment is an asset. - A minimum of 1 year of proven experience or a relevant role in a similar work environment is considered an asset. The schedule for this position is based on a 5-day shift, (may include weekends) This position might require the incumbent to support different areas of CMARC depending on the need. The use of Personal Protective Equipment is mandatory (including the N95 mask). Participation in OHP is mandatory for personnel in contact with non-human primates.
