About Walapay
Walapay is building modern money-movement infrastructure. Through a single API, platforms, payment companies, and businesses collect, hold, and send funds across fiat currencies and stablecoins — virtual accounts at tier-1 banks, local rails, and on/off-ramps covering 60+ currencies and 180+ countries.
Compliance is not a bolt-on. KYC, KYB, sanctions screening, customer risk rating, and transaction monitoring sit in the product so partners can launch corridors without standing up a full financial-crime stack themselves. This role sits on that control surface: you review real customers and real flows, and you help keep the program defensible as volume grows.
The role
We are hiring a BSA/AML Analyst to run day-to-day financial-crime operations across two populations: business clients (neobanks, payroll providers, PSPs, merchants, and other companies) and the end users those clients bring onto Walapay rails.
You will own first-line casework — onboarding due diligence, sanctions/PEP/adverse-media disposition, and transaction-monitoring investigations — and write clear recommendations. Suspicious-activity decisions and regulatory filings sit with the AML Officer / Compliance Officer.
The program is built on a FATF-aligned, risk-based framework. U.S. BSA/AML and OFAC obligations are a core part of the work, not the only part. You will also apply partner-bank expectations and the AML/CFT standards that apply in the corridors we serve.
What you will do
- KYB onboarding: Review and decide KYB packages: formation documents, ownership charts, control persons, UBO identification (25%+ and control), business activity, expected volume and purpose, licenses where relevant, and source-of-funds / source-of-wealth when risk requires it.
- KYC onboarding: Review KYC / CIP files for individuals — identity, address, occupation, expected activity — including end users onboarded through platform partners.
- CDD / EDD: Request and review evidence, chase outstanding items against SLAs, and write an onboarding recommendation (approve, approve with conditions, decline, or escalate).
- Screening: Disposition sanctions, PEP, watchlist, and adverse-media alerts. Record a true-match / false-positive rationale that would survive a partner-bank or examiner review.
- Transaction monitoring: Investigate alerts and referrals across fiat and stablecoin rails. Compare activity to the expected profile. Identify structuring, layering, mule patterns, sanctions-evasion attempts, unusual cash-out, and corridor-specific typologies.
- Investigations: Write investigation narratives and SAR/STR recommendations.
- Systems: Work cases in AiPrise (or an equivalent KYC/KYB and screening platform) and the case-management / monitoring tools we use.
- Partner support: Respond or relay RFIs from banking partners, correspondents, and internal product/ops teams.
- Program hygiene: Keep procedures, checklists, and typology notes current. Surface patterns that should change onboarding questions, prohibited/high-risk industry treatment, or monitoring scenarios.
What you will need
- Experience: 3+ years in BSA/AML, financial-crime operations, KYC/KYB, screening, or transaction monitoring at an MSB, payments company, remittance firm, sponsor bank, crypto exchanges, or similar regulated payments business.
- KYB + KYC range: Comfortable applying a risk-based approach to both companies and individuals, including beneficial-ownership analysis and expected-activity testing.
- Tools: Hands-on experience with a modern KYC/KYB and screening platform such as Sumsub, Persona, Jumio, ComplyAdvantage, World-Check, Alloy, or similar is acceptable if you can get productive in AiPrise quickly.
- Regulatory fluency: Working knowledge of the FATF Recommendations in practice (CDD/EDD, PEPs, targeted financial sanctions, ongoing monitoring, suspicious-activity reporting). U.S. BSA/AML, CIP, beneficial-ownership, OFAC, and FinCEN SAR expectations should be familiar even if they are not the only regime you have used.
- Judgment and writing: You can reconstruct a flow of funds, separate a true hit from a name collision, and write a narrative a reviewer can act on.
- Location: Remote, Americas. Must overlap U.S. Eastern 9:00–17:00 at minimum. English working language.
Nice to have
- Stablecoins, on/off-ramps, virtual accounts, or on-chain analytics (Chainalysis, Elliptic, TRM). Crypto is a plus, not a gate.
- CAMS, ICA, or equivalent — in progress is fine.
- Sponsor-bank / correspondent RFI and lookback experience.
- SQL or advanced spreadsheets used on alert populations.
- Early-stage or high-growth fintech where you both worked cases and improved the procedure behind them.
