About the opportunity
The AP Labs Lead drives innovation by identifying, testing and scaling emerging technologies that deliver meaningful outcomes for Australia Post and its customers. Working closely with business teams, engineers, start-ups and external partners, the role leads the development of proofs of concept, prototypes and MVPs, using innovation frameworks, design thinking and agile practices to solve complex business challenges. AP Labs is out technology innovation team that sits within our AI, Technology and Architecture function.

Reporting into the Head of AP Labs, this role is responsible for measuring and reporting the impact of innovation initiatives and portfolio performance, providing insights and updates to senior leaders. You'll help design and deliver innovation workshops and capability uplift programs across areas such as AI, cloud and emerging technologies. You stay ahead of technology trends, industry best practices and advancements in areas like AI/ML, quantum computing, robotics and cloud platforms to identify new opportunities for Australia Post.

You’ll also 

• Technology Strategy: Partner with stakeholders to identify emerging technology opportunities and define innovation priorities aligned to business goals and Post30.
• Opportunity Identification, Prioritisation and Portfolio Development: Identify, assess and prioritise emerging technology opportunities to build a portfolio of innovative solutions that address business challenges.
• Solution Design & Prototyping: Lead solution design and rapid prototyping to validate technical feasibility, business value and user needs.
• Project Management: Lead innovation initiatives from concept and prototyping through to MVP, delivery and business handover, ensuring stakeholder alignment and governance compliance.
• Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships: Build strong relationships across business, technology and external partners to drive collaboration, adoption and innovation outcomes.
• Business Model Innovation: Experience identifying and developing new business models and revenue opportunities to unlock future growth.

About you
We're looking for a commercially minded innovator who can turn emerging technology opportunities into tangible business outcomes. You'll develop business cases, pilot plans and technology roadmaps, facilitate innovation workshops, and use market insights to identify growth opportunities, shape future investments and align innovation initiatives to strategic business priorities.

You’ll also need 

• Background working in Innovation Labs, Emerging Technology or AI Solutions domains
• Strong understanding of emerging technologies, including AI/ML, quantum computing, blockchain, IoT, robotics, Agentic AI, AR/VR or sustainable technologies
• Experience running technical feasibility assessments evaluating the scalability and integration of emerging technologies & solutions.
• Proven ability applying Design Thinking, Innovation methodologies, Lean, Agile and rapid prototyping techniques to develop and validate innovative solutions.
• Proven ability to lead/collaborate with cross-functional teams, build strong stakeholder relationships, and foster collaboration across business, technology and external partners.
