Organizational Overview:
Credit Team decisions credit actions across the lifecycle of a customer – from acquisition to account management to collections and recover – we work towards managing credit and fraud losses and elevating customer experience through powerful and proprietary insights on customer risk and credit behaviors. The actionable insights are driven by access to numerous alternative data sources, new age technologies, focused strategies, emerging algorithms, and predictive precision. Spread across 10 pillars the credit team in India caters to the entire gamut of decision sciences, from data management to model development to strategy design, and bringing it all to life through technology, and managing within the guardrails of our regulatory requirements. Role Summary/Purpose:
As an API Engineer I, you’ll be a part of an amazing team working on our microservice APIs throughout the entire development process. You’ll participate in hack-a-thons, partner with universities on innovation events, and work with our famed Stamford Innovation Station

Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies and collaborate with cross-shore development and QA teams.
- Design, review, and execute test cases for APIs, backend services, and integrated systems.
- Perform functional, regression, integration, smoke, and sanity testing.
- Validate REST and SOAP services using tools such as Postman, SoapUI, or equivalent.
- Identify, log, track, and retest defects using Jira or similar defect-tracking tools.
- Work closely with developers and analysts to clarify requirements and test scenarios.
- Support test data preparation, test environment validation, and release readiness activities.
- Contribute to test automation efforts where applicable using Java-based frameworks or other approved tools.
- Analyze test results and support root cause analysis for production and pre-production issues.
- Continuously look for ways to improve test coverage, test efficiency, and product quality.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Minimum 1+ year of experience in software testing or quality engineering.
- Hands-on experience testing REST and/or SOAP APIs.
- Good understanding of software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Basic knowledge of Java is preferred for automation or technical test support.
- Familiarity with JSON, XML, HTTP methods, request/response validation, and status codes.
- Attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of AI Tools for software testing and Quality Engineering
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience in Java programming is preferable
- Familiarity building and consuming web services via SOAP and REST
- Familiarity with common Java frameworks like Spring and Spring boot
- Familiarity with Jira and Bitbucket and git.
- Familiarity with continuous integration environments
- Familiarity writing unit and integration tests
- Familiarity with JSON, REST and XML based web services
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical peers
- Strong cross-functional team player with the ability to work seamlessly across a matrix organization
- Desire to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to influence clients, team members, management and external groups
- Strong attention to detail in a team environment
- Strong oral and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to analyze, use structured problem-solving and available tools to troubleshoot systems, identify root cause, action plans, impact and resolution options
- Knowledge on AI Tools for Developers (Like GitHub Co-pilot, Rovo etc), Development of AI Agents, Understanding of tools, skills and Instruction markdown files etc.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related degree OR, in lieu of degree, High School Diploma/GED with knowledge of application development using Java minimum 1 Year of Software Engineering Experience.

Work Timings : 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM IST
(This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility and Choice offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs.
