Job Description
Job Title: Applications Engineer II
Department: Engineering
Supervisor: Manager – Engineering
Job Purpose:
The Application Engineer II will work on projects where creative solutions and new innovative technologies are keys to success. The Application Engineer II will be responsible for the engineering on projects from conceptual design and budgeting through firm pricing and implementation support. The position will interface with internal teams and the client as well as Hy-Tek vendors to ensure successful delivery of integrated systems ensuring client satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and apply material handling products, such as conveyor, sortation, and racking, as well as innovative technologies including mobile robotics, goods to person, robotic sortation, and industrial robotics
- Lead cross functional team to develop integrated material handling solution options that feature innovative technologies for client
- Participate in multiple projects concurrently
- Evaluate innovative technologies based on specific data driven design criteria
- With collaborative team, including internal team and outside vendors, lead client through the design process, by creating block plans, flow diagrams and project plans to illustrate flow
- Develop and document, in CAD, the complete material handling system with specific and appropriate equipment based on key design criteria
- Appropriately budget the concepts and assist in firm pricing the final designs
- Assist sales team in design review meetings with the client
- Key contributor in site visits during the proposal phase with the client and account manager as well as during firm design to capture onsite design requirements
- Assists with development of proposal using defined templates and standards that best reflects our offering to the client to meet their needs
- All other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- 3+ years of experience in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering preferred with a focus in Material Handling Industry
- Formal training in mechanical engineering or equivalent related experience required
- Proficient in the current version of AutoDesk Products (AutoCad, Inventor, Etc.) and able to learn to work with supplier drawing packages
- Creative, self-motivated, engineer who enjoys working in team settings
- Have a customer-focused approach to solve challenges
- Desire to grow and develop beyond the stated job
- Well-developed verbal / interpersonal skills with strong organizational, problem solving, judgement making, and time management skills
- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
- Industry knowledge related to material handling systems and software preferred
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
Working Conditions:
- Ability to travel up to 20% or as needed; willing to work extended hours to support proposal and contract activities
- Working in office, warehouse, and manufacturing facilities
- Working in a stationary position for an extended period
- Moving or traversing for an extended period
- Occasional ascending and descending scaffolding and/or mezzanines
- Operating computers for an extended period
- Possible exposure to noise levels exceeding recommended DBA levels
- Occasional movement and positioning of objects weighing up to 50 pounds
