Applied R&D Engineer

The position is for a Senior Technical Specialist in the CNS Charging Application Business, NCC R&D Team (Online Charging), Gurgaon. The selected candidate will be part of the R&D Scrum/R&D Support team responsible for developing features on the Nokia Converged Charging (NCC) product. The role involves support, designing, and developing solutions to address customer-reported product issues, while also contributing to feature development. The candidate must have extensive working knowledge of Java and be able to participate in design discussions and address performance issues.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE AND WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

• Understand and refine customer/internal product requirements and develop design alternatives ensuring complete coverage of functional and non-functional requirements.
• Work within the Agile development sprint team to plan, design, code, unit-test, automate JUnits, and ensure appropriate code coverage.
• Analyze, debug, and resolve defects identified during functional, non-functional, integration, customer lab, and production phases, including RCA and corrective actions.
• Support deployment, testing, and customer queries, while collaborating closely with other development and services teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Identify and implement new tools, techniques, and process improvements to enhance development and testing efficiency.
• Support team capability development through interviews, on-the-job training, and mentoring of junior team members.
• Work independently when required, provide accurate and timely status updates, and demonstrate a flexible, proactive, self-motivated approach with the ability to multitask under pressure.

You have:

• Strong Java skills, preferably in a J2EE application server environment, with knowledge of Java design patterns and Java frameworks.
• Strong understanding of Data Structures and Algorithms, data modelling techniques, and the ability to design and code for scalability.
• Experience with Web Services, including REST, SOAP, and XML.
• Good hands-on experience with Linux OS-based systems and strong debugging skills using IDEs such as Eclipse or IntelliJ.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

It would be nice if you also had:

• Charging & Telecom Domain: Charging concepts and development experience across LTE, 3GPP architecture, real-time charging systems, 5G and IoT use cases; experience with NCC, SPS and/or competitive charging products; Diameter/4G interfaces (base protocol, Gy, Sy, Ro) and 5G interfaces (NCHF, N40, N28).
• Application & Database Development: Experience with NoSQL-based databases, TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTP2, HTTPS, web technologies (HTML, JavaScript, JQuery), and multi-tiered/full-stack application development covering OS, platform, front end, back end, database, and network.
• Agile, DevOps & Automation: Experience working in Agile/scaled Agile Scrum teams, with knowledge of Maven, Ant or Gradle scripts; Git, Gerrit, Jira, Confluence and SharePoint; DevOps concepts, CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins, and automation frameworks such as Robot.
• Cloud-Native & Container Technologies: Exposure to Microservices, Docker, Containers, Kubernetes, and related areas, along with the ability to use AI-assisted development and vibe coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, Cursor, or similar, with a good understanding of AI concepts and familiarity
