Job Title: Architect / Job Captain Job Description This role provides architectural design and documentation leadership on a large, 400,000 square foot MedTech project, primarily focused on office space and tenant improvement work in the Design Development (DD) phase. You collaborate closely with project architects, design leaders, development and construction teams, and consultants to produce coordinated, constructible, and code-compliant design documents. You support and often lead design and consultant meetings, drive the regulatory approval process, and manage quality assurance and quality control for project documentation and specifications. This position offers the opportunity to work long term on multiple projects and building types, with the potential to transition from contract to a full-time role based on workload and performance. Responsibilities Collaborate closely with project architects, design project managers, development and construction teams, and external consultants to develop coordinated documentation for design and construction. Participate in and, when needed, lead design meetings, consultant meetings, and project team meetings to align on project goals, milestones, and deliverables. Independently solve design and technical problems, applying sound principles of architectural design to create effective solutions. Provide guidance and direction on unusual or complex technical issues, helping the project team navigate challenges and make informed decisions. Research applicable codes and regulations, lead code reviews, and support the regulatory approval process to ensure compliance for all project documentation. Create complete, thorough, and well-coordinated sets of design documents that meet project goals, milestones, and schedule requirements. Manage and coordinate the QA/QC process for project documentation, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment with project standards. Develop, refine, and coordinate project specifications in alignment with design intent and construction requirements. Clearly communicate any deviations or changes in project scope to the appropriate stakeholders in a timely and transparent manner. Perform daily tasks with a high level of collaboration, setting a positive example for teamwork and cross-disciplinary coordination. Contribute to a strong studio culture by participating in office activities, initiatives, and learning programs. Direct, mentor, and support junior and intern-level staff, providing guidance on design, documentation, and professional development. Support the interior design team by producing interior architectural documentation and coordinating with other disciplines, similar to prior project engagements. Rework and enhance Revit-based construction document (CD) packages to meet high standards of quality and coordination. Engage in detailed architectural work, including careful detailing and thorough investigation of design and coordination issues to uncover and resolve potential conflicts. Essential Skills Minimum of 8 years of experience in architecture or a closely related architectural design and documentation role. Strong proficiency in Revit for design development, construction documentation, and coordination. Hands-on experience producing construction documents and construction drawings for complex projects. Demonstrated ability to lead or significantly contribute to architectural design development for large-scale projects. Proven capability to conduct and apply detailed code reviews and support regulatory approval processes. Experience managing and coordinating QA/QC processes for architectural documentation and specifications. Ability to independently solve design and technical problems using fundamental principles of architecture and building design. Strong skills in architectural detailing, with the ability to investigate and resolve design and coordination issues thoroughly. Effective communication skills to clearly convey scope changes, technical issues, and coordination requirements to project stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior and intern-level staff in design and documentation tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications Architectural license is not required for this role; relevant experience and technical skills are the primary focus. Experience working on MedTech, office, or tenant improvement projects, particularly in the Design Development phase, is highly beneficial. Background in supporting interior design teams with interior architectural documentation and coordination is a strong plus. Familiarity with large, complex project environments and multidisciplinary coordination. Interest in contributing to a collaborative office culture through participation in activities, initiatives, and learning programs. Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, maintaining communication and coordination across in-office and remote settings. Openness to long-term engagement, with potential to work on multiple projects and building types and transition from contract to a full-time role depending on workload. Work Environment You work on a large and exciting 400,000 square foot MedTech project that is currently in Design Development documentation through early November, with project work expected to continue through the end of the year and extend into additional assignments. The role begins with one week fully in the office (5 days) for onboarding and immersion in the project, followed by a hybrid schedule of four days in the office and one day remote each week. You operate in a collaborative studio environment, partnering closely with interior design, development, construction, and consultant teams, and using Revit as a primary design and documentation tool. The workload and project pipeline provide the opportunity for long-term engagement and potential transition from contract to a full-time position, with exposure to multiple project types and building typologies.
