The role
We are looking for an Assessment Services Officer to support our Construction Research Centre. The incumbent would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
The Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC) delivers a national service for the assessment of innovative and non-standardized building products and systems to determine their compliance with Canadian construction codes. CCMC clients are manufacturers of innovative building products who benefit from accelerated and expanded access to the construction market.
The incumbent is part of a team that serves industrial clients through the application of a rigorous evaluation process that introduces new products into the marketplace. The evaluation process involves assessing performance expectations of Canadian code requirements and using the best available knowledge to determine, through testing, if innovative products and systems meet those expectations.
The incumbent will work with a team of Evaluation Officers and technical experts who establish appropriate evaluation criteria, and assess standards, test results and engineering analyses in relation to an innovative product’s compliance with the Canadian codes.
The incumbent will prepare, modify and maintain documents and publications in the form of evaluation reports and listings. The position requires an understanding of construction processes, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with the public, clients, users and other industry stakeholders, and successfully encourage potential clients to see the benefits of using the CCMC’s services.
The incumbent will support the technical work of CCMC Evaluation Officers (RCO) through project tracking, client interactions, documenting, recordkeeping and drafting publication content, as directed.
The incumbent will maintain CCMC publications through editing and updating technical content as directed by the Assessment Services Group (ASG) Team Lead or CCMC Evaluation Officers.
The incumbent will also provide client-facing support by responding to general requests for information on the CCMC’s processes, fees and expected timelines, with guidance from the ASG team lead. The position does not have any direct reports, but will provide functional support regarding technical issues to CCMC administration staff, students and a TO2 Assessment Services Coordinator.
The incumbent will operate both as a team member and independently, consulting with staff in various fields related to construction products and systems, and interacting with numerous industry clients as well as with colleagues at the NRC. A key function of the position is to support the work of CCMC and technical staff in developing assessments for new and innovative materials, products, systems and services.
