Freight and Duty Assistant Accountant/ Leading Global Business / Global VAT/ AAT Qualified – PQ ACCA or CIMA /Excellent Benefits/Free On-Site Gym/ Free On-Site Parking/ 12 Month Fixed Term Contract – Permanent/ Immediate Start

Forge Talent has partnered with a globally operating leading business who have a requirement within their Management Accounting Team. This position will take responsibility for the accounting, analysis and reconciliation of all freight and duty invoices across EMEA.

This is a business-critical role that will require previous experience in a similar position, in addition to full working knowledge of the end to end accounts payable cycle.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and energetic Assistant Accountant with an understanding of the end-to-end payables process. You will be joining a fast paced and high performing team. Experience gained within a global environment is highly advantageous.

This will initially be a 12-month fixed term contract with a strong potential to convert to a permanent position.

Assistant Accountant Key Duties:

• Allocate freight and duty costs correctly.
• Work with the Accounts Payable Team to resolve any unmatched freight and duty invoices, ensuring the timely clearance of aged items.
• Ensure all postings comply with international tax rules and internal controls.
• Review invoice postings against accrued freight and duty balances and investigate variances.
• Support the validation of freight and duty accrual calculations by ensuring invoices are matched accurately and on a timely basis.
• Reconcile suspense and balance sheet accounts regularly.
• Provide month-end support through preparation of reconciliations, analysis of open items, and validation of freight and duty postings.
• Work with the wider logistics, supply chain, procurement and finance teams to resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Ensure PO compliance and guide suppliers on correct invoicing procedures.
• Assist with internal and external audits for EMEA entities.
• Support improvements in the freight and duty reporting process.

Assistant Accountant Required Experience:

• Proven experience in a similar role with broad exposure to Management Accounting and end-to-end Accounts Payable processes
• Experience of working in a high volume and fast paced global business environment.
• AAT qualifications, ideally having started CIMA or ACCA
• Experience of or exposure to reconciling balance sheet accounts, accruals and general ledger postings.
• A strong understanding of Management Accounting principles.
• Experience of freight, duty and customs or logistics invoicing processes is highly advantageous although by no means essential.
• Advanced Excel skills. (SQL and Power BI highly advantageous)
• Strong computerised systems skills – experience of Microsoft Dynamics is highly advantageous although not essential.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build strong and trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• The ability to work well both independently and as part of a team in a high performing business environment.
• An analytical approach to tasks with a focus on accuracy and continual improvements.
• The ability to assess current ways of working and offer solutions to improve processes.
• International VAT and knowledge of VAT variances is highly advantageous.
• A positive and motivated approach to the role and working as part of a friendly and supportive team.
