Assistant Accountant

Location: Sydney, Australia (Hybrid)

Employment Type: Full-time

About Beforepay Group

Beforepay Group was founded in 2019 to support working Australians who have not been well-served by the traditional financial services industry. Our lending arm, Beforepay, offers consumers an ethical, customer-friendly way to help manage temporary cash flow challenges through pay advances and personal loans.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for an Assistant Accountant with approximately two years of post-graduate experience to join our Finance team. You’ll support day-to-day finance operations and month-end reporting, taking ownership of accounts payable and assigned reconciliations, with guidance and review from senior finance colleagues.

As part of a small team, you’ll have opportunities to broaden your skills and gain hands-on experience across finance and other areas of the business, beyond your core responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

• Manage the end-to-end accounts payable process, including invoice processing, coding, supplier queries and supplier reconciliations.

• Obtain invoice approvals from relevant stakeholders and prepare payment batches for authorised approval, following payment controls.

• Prepare and maintain the monthly balance sheet reconciliation pack, with clear supporting schedules and timely follow-up of reconciling items.

• Prepare recurring accruals, prepayments, depreciation and other supporting journals for review, in line with the month-end timetable.

• Compile audit evidence, maintain audit request trackers and prepare supporting schedules for review.

• Maintain accurate, organised financial records and document procedures to support consistent processes and a clear audit trail.

• Provide general office administration support and assist with office manager duties.

• Assist with other administrative tasks such as onboarding support and record keeping.

About You

Essential

• A degree in accounting, business or finance, with approximately two years of post-graduate experience in a comparable accounting role.

• Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, lookups and pivot tables to prepare and check financial schedules.

• Clear communication skills and confidence working with internal and external stakeholders.

• Demonstrates initiative and a strong willingness to learn, with opportunities to develop new skills and gain exposure to a broad range of finance activities.

Why Beforepay

• Join a mission-driven fintech supporting the financial wellbeing of working Australians.

• Develop your accounting skills through practical exposure to finance operations, month-end reporting and audit support.

• Hybrid working with flexibility, a modern Sydney CBD office and a culture built on transparency, impact and growth.
