Key Responsibilities Position: Assistant Director Location: Salt Lake City, UT Job Description: This executive-level position reports directly to the Director of the Utah Division of Water Resources. The Assistant Director oversees the daily operations of the Conservation and Operations Branch and provides leadership, administrative support, and strategic guidance across the division. The position supervises managers within four sections: • Data and Innovation • Finance • Water Conservation • Web, IT and Communications The Assistant Director helps establish division goals, priorities, policies, budgets, and business practices. The position also represents the division with government agencies, community partners, private organizations, and the public. The position follows a Monday through Friday schedule and offers a hybrid work arrangement. Qualifications Key Responsibilities: • Develop and coordinate strategic plans, policies, priorities, resources, and program goals. • Assist boards, councils, committees, and task forces with division initiatives. • Manage and monitor budgets, revenues, expenditures, and financial projections. • Supervise managers and staff, including hiring, training, assigning work, evaluating performance, and addressing performance concerns. • Manage statewide and agency-wide programs. • Establish program goals and lead committees supporting program operations. • Review operations, programs, and processes for quality and effectiveness. • Recommend improvements to division programs and business practices. • Represent the division with federal, state, and local government agencies. • Represent the division at community meetings and with private organizations. • Serve as a resource for division management and staff. • Provide consultation, technical guidance, recommendations, and support for management decisions. • Assist the Director with division operations, policies, priorities, budgets, and new program development. Minimum Qualifications : The successful applicant must have: • Knowledge of business administration and management principles. • Knowledge of strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership, human resources, and organizational management. • Knowledge of customer service principles and quality standards. • Strong reading comprehension and active listening skills. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. • Skill in monitoring employee, program, and organizational performance. • Ability to understand and interpret written information. • Ability to communicate information clearly through writing and speaking. • Ability to identify current or potential operational problems. • Ability to apply policies and general rules to specific situations. • Ability to review information and develop reasonable conclusions. • Ability to organize information, work, and processes in a logical order. Preferred Qualifications: Preference may be given to applicants who: • Are certified public managers. • Have successful supervisory or management experience. • Have experience in water resources, water conservation, water planning, or water data management. • Have experience with communications, website management, or information technology. • Have experience with financial management and budget preparation. • Have experience writing or reviewing contracts, legal documents, or legislation.
