The Assistant Director of Finance and Accounting applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information, provide internal control and prepare financial reports including assistance with quarter end financial statements. This role compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare payroll and entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions. Additional responsibilities include analyzing general ledger accounts to assure accrual presentations and agreement between systems; coordinating implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures across systems. This role assists the Finance Director, or other finance leader, with more complex accounting functions and problems. Work in this job class requires independent judgment on technical accounting problems of limited variety, and is is reviewed by the Finance Director upon completion and if necessary, prior to posting for over-all standards of performance, and is subject to periodic audit.

  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting, including preparation of financial analyses, monitoring budget-to-actual results, investigating variances, and providing financial information to support departmental decision-making.
  • Prepares or reviews payroll for all MCOM faculty accounted for and by UMSA payroll reporting procedures. Preparation involves set up for new hires, biweekly adjustments to meet the requirement of submitting payroll before the pay period actually ends, assuring proper approval on each time report, preparing the correct journal entry for payroll accounting for necessary accruals and reconciliation to payroll register, leave management including calculation, monitoring and recording leave in system.
  • Maintain and monitor physician compensation, including compensation models, productivity and wRVU calculations, incentive payments, and related financial analyses to ensure accuracy and compliance with established compensation plans.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports and models and provide ongoing support to the Director of Finance and leadership on financial performance, physician compensation, payroll, and other special financial projects.
  • Interpret, develop, recommend, implement, communicate and monitor accounting policies and procedures. Maintains overall general ledger accuracy by reviewing daily journal entries searching for anomalies, ensuring a clean account structure and maintaining consistency between all systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree -OR- equivalent combination of education and experience and 5+ years of related experience.

• (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;
• (c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree;
• (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
• (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
• Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration
required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the
advertised description of the position of employment.
• Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
