About Much Better Adventures Much Better Adventures books small-group adventure holidays run by local, independent guides in wild places around the world. We're a certified B Corp, on a mission to get more people into the world's wildest places, support the local businesses who protect them, and prove that adventure travel can be a force for good. We're a remote-first team coming together for annual company meet-ups. The Role You will be working alongside another Assistant Management Accountant and reporting directly into the Financial Controller. Ownership of the responsibilities below will be shared amongst the team. The exact split isn't fixed — it'll flex based on strengths, interests, workload, and what the business needs, and will evolve as you settle in. What matters more than who does exactly what is that the team works well together and covers its responsibilities. Trust is a key value in our company and team culture. With us being based remotely, it is crucial that you are motivated by working in a team and intrinsically driven to perform to the highest standards you are capable of. What matters most is attitude, diligence, and a strong sense of ownership. We need someone who does what they say they will, flags problems early, has an appetite to learn and is genuinely glad to pitch in for a teammate without being asked. Care and pride in your own performance and a team-player mentality matter here more than your explicit experience. What You'll Be Doing - (as shared responsibilities) Initially supporting, and ultimately owning a 5 day month-end process end to end — this spans payroll journals and accruals, sales and commissions postings, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, OPEX accruals and prepayments, management accounts preparation, and preparing the finance slides and commentary used for the board deck Preparing the departmental costs reporting file and variance analysis within 2 days of month end close Supporting the Financial Controller with regulatory reporting requirements Supporting the audit process: preparing working files, and responding to auditor queries and sample requests Processing supplier payments and managing Xero and Airwallex payment flows Processing customer refunds and employee expenses Calculating local host payments — liaising with the Operations and Expansion teams and dealing with host queries Assessing foreign currency requirements and booking forward contracts on a weekly basis to ensure sufficient currency is held to pay hosts Cash management: monitoring balances and ensuring spare cash is held in interest-bearing accounts where appropriate Preparing and filing VAT returns Preparing payroll Recently qualified OR part qualified accountant in active study (ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) Solid grounding in management accounting and finance operations Comfortable working independently in a remote environment — organised, self-motivated, excellent time management skills A genuinely positive attitude and willingness to pitch in wherever needed High attention to detail and a diligent, thorough approach to the numbers A strong team player who communicates frequently via Slack and supports colleagues without daily in-person contact Strong Google Sheets/Excel skills Growth mindset and an active propensity to suggest and make improvements to existing processes, systems and files through automation/AI The warm fuzzy feeling that comes with knowing you are making a huge difference to small independent businesses, local economies, communities and conservation around the world. 38 days holiday per year (inclusive of public holidays) - to be used when you like. Competitive compensation aligned with UK market benchmarks and your level of experience. Flexible hours setup (40 hours p/w for full-time roles) and a fully remote company. Company-wide, adventurous meet-ups. Experience what we do: everyone goes on a free trip within their first year. A £500 annual travel voucher to spend on a trip or trips. 30% employee discount, plus 15% friends and family discount. Up to 8% matched contribution pension scheme (UK employees only). Fully comprehensive AXA private healthcare scheme (UK employees only). Life Assurance (UK employees only). Budget to set up a remote working space and access to co-working spaces. Supportive maternity and paternity pay: 16 weeks full pay if you're the primary caregiver, 4 weeks full pay if you're the secondary caregiver. What does the typical interview process look like? Every application that makes it through is carefully read by a real member of the team. We ask all candidates to have a short screening call with HR to ensure we're aligned on the key requirements and expectations from both sides before progressing to the next stage. Stage 1: 30 minute informal video call Stage 2: Technical exercise and interview. In person. Stage 3: Final remote interview with CFO Salary: £40k-£50k To start as soon as possible We are an equal opportunities employer and strongly encourage applications from a diverse range of backgrounds and industries. Our flexible working arrangements are designed to support everyone in the team to achieve work/life balance in a way that works for their particular circumstance.
