SUMMARY: The Assistant Professor of Practice (Professional Track Faculty) of Criminal Justice with Emphasis in Law Enforcement Leadership (BSCJ-CJUS) is a twelve-month, full-time, renewable, non-tenure track faculty position within the College of Innovation and Design at East Texas A&M University. Professional Track Faculty provide high-quality instruction in their assigned academic discipline through innovative, student-centered teaching practices that support adult learners and prepare graduates for success in an evolving workforce. Professional Track Faculty within the College of Innovation and Design are teacher-scholars of practice whose primary responsibility is teaching excellence, supported by leadership within the faculty community, engagement with their profession, and meaningful contributions to the College and University. Faculty integrate disciplinary expertise, instructional innovation, curriculum leadership, and professional experience to create engaging learning experiences while maintaining strong connections between academic programs and workforce needs. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, provide leadership in curriculum development and continuous improvement, collaborate with colleagues to promote student success, maintain active engagement within their profession, and contribute to the mission and strategic priorities of the College and University. This position is primarily remote. Occasional travel to East Texas A&M University campuses and other locations for university meetings, commencement ceremonies, professional engagement activities, partnership development, recruitment opportunities, and other college initiatives may be required. The university will not reimburse mileage or travel time for these required meetings. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching Excellence • Serve as instructor of record for discipline-specific courses as assigned by the Assistant Dean or Program Director under the direction of the Dean. • Deliver high-quality online instruction utilizing student-centered, innovative teaching practices that promote student engagement, competency mastery, and academic success. • Provide on-demand academic support while maintaining regular communication with students throughout the learning process. • Respond to student inquiries within established university and college expectations and provide timely, meaningful feedback on assignments, assessments, and evaluations. • Foster a supportive learning environment that promotes student persistence, competency attainment, and timely completion of coursework. • Utilize learning analytics and student performance data to monitor progress, identify students requiring additional support, and collaborate with academic success teams and student services as appropriate. • Maintain accurate academic records and ensure course materials remain current, accessible, and ready for delivery each academic term. Curriculum Leadership • Serve as a steward of the assigned curriculum by contributing to course design, curriculum review, assessment, instructional innovation, and continuous improvement. • Participate in program assessment, institutional effectiveness activities, accreditation support, and program review processes to ensure academic quality and workforce relevance. • Collaborate with faculty, instructional designers, advisory boards, and industry partners to evaluate student outcomes, identify emerging workforce needs, and recommend curriculum enhancements that support continuous improvement. Faculty Leadership & Collaboration • Collaborate with full-time and adjunct faculty to promote instructional quality, consistency, and student success. • Foster a collaborative faculty culture by sharing instructional best practices, participating in faculty development opportunities, and contributing to initiatives that strengthen teaching and learning. • Build and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, instructional designers, advisors, and university partners in support of the College's mission. Professional Engagement & Strategic Partnerships • Maintain active engagement within the teaching discipline through professional organizations, continuing education, certifications, conferences, leadership opportunities, applied professional practice, or other activities that support disciplinary currency. • Develop and maintain relationships with employers, alumni, advisory board members, community organizations, industry partners, and other external stakeholders that strengthen workforce alignment and student opportunities. • Represent the College through professional meetings, conferences, outreach activities, partnership development, and recruitment opportunities, as appropriate. • Monitor emerging trends within the profession and contribute recommendations that strengthen curriculum quality, instructional effectiveness, and workforce relevance. Institutional Engagement & Service • Contribute to departmental, college, and university committees, institutional effectiveness initiatives, accreditation activities, strategic priorities, and other service responsibilities as assigned. • Participate in required faculty meetings, commencement ceremonies, professional development activities, college events, planning sessions, and other institutional engagement opportunities. • Complete all required university training and assigned administrative responsibilities in a timely manner. • Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or closely related field, which includes at least 18 graduate semester credit hours in Criminal Justice or equivalent combination of graduate-level education and experience. Professional Experience Five (5) years of industry experience in related field Hold active peace officer status in the state of Texas Leadership experience within a Texas criminal justice or public safety agency Leadership experience in criminal justice, public safety, law enforcement, corrections, emergency management, or closely related field. Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, supervise, and/or develop others through professional leadership or training Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to work with sensitive information and/or documents and must be able to maintain confidentially of information. Ability to : Communicate effectively, both written and spoken, with students, faculty, staff, and external partners. Ability to: Manage multiple priorities and work cooperatively in a fully online, distributed team environment. PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE: • Education : Terminal degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Leadership, Homeland Security, or closely related discipline • Prior teaching experience at the college or university level (as instructor of record, adjunct, teaching assistant, or clinical/lab instructor). • Experience with competency-based education (CBE), online instruction, or adult/nontraditional learner populations. • Active involvement in relevant professional organizations, industry associations, or advisory boards. • Progressive supervisory, management, or command-level experience within a criminal justice or public safety organization. • Experiencing developing, delivering, and/or facilitating professional training, academy instruction, leadership development programs, workforce education, or organizational learning initiatives.
